Pre-Chapter Eighteen: Nightmares and Early Morning Spells

JANUARY 20, 2006

LATE NIGHT INTO EARLY MORNING

TOKYO, JAPAN

I didn't know what was going on, even though I knew where I was. I was still in Tokyo, but I had no idea what was going on. Everything around me felt so weird as if it was a ghost town. "Hello!" I called out. I walked around and everything felt so surreal. "Is anybody there?" I began to look around some more and heard a cat meowing. I saw a black cat running up to me. It was Alex! "Alex!" I said with open arms. He jumped right into my arms and purred against me. I laughed when he purred up against me. Then, I heard another meow. I looked down and saw another cat who looked to be a female Japanese Bobtail cat along with a Calico cat. "Hello there," I said bending down and picking her up with my right arm. "I've never seen you around before, little kitty." The other cat purred against my shoulder. "What's your name?" I asked. The cat meowed. "Claire?" I asked. "What a beautiful name." "Maybe you and Alex could get along someday..." 

"Hey, you! Stop right there!" I heard a voice call out. I looked up to see a guy almost about my height approaching me. He looks almost identical to L, except he has white hair and he has on white pajamas. "That's her!" the boy said stopping right in front of me. "This is the lady we've been looking for! Anna Monroe from Waco, TX! She moved here with the New Jersey pop star, Christy Grim!" The guy turned and glanced at the people behind him. "She's the new Kira!" he told them. My jaw dropped and my eyes widened after he said that. What? How did he know that I was the new Kira? Who is he? And how come I've never seen him before? I thought to myself. "I knew it!" I heard a voice from behind me. I turned around and saw Geffrey holding Saiko in his arms. They both glared at me with angry looks on their face. "You framed me and Saiko, didn't you?" he asked furiously. "You placed fake Death Notes into our bags as a revenge plot, didn't you, Marie?!" Saiko asked loudly. I shook my head. "No!" I answered. "I don't know how those notebooks got in there!"

 I heard the sounds of guns clicking from behind me. I turned around and saw the people behind the L lookalike with white hair pointing their guns at me. "You, Anna Monroe," he began. "You tried to follow the footsteps of Light Yagami...which led you down the same path as he did in life. You both are nothing more than just crazy serial killers." The white cat on his shoulders meowed and jumped into his arms. I shook my head. "No!" I corrected him. "I have no interest in falling down the same path that Light went through, I only punish the criminals, not the innocent people! I would never kill anybody innocent!" "Ha!" the L lookalike laughed while stroking his pet cat. "I've heard that before." Right after he said that I looked around and saw a crowd of people coming out of various buildings and looking straight at me with dirty looks. Then, I saw my parents, my brothers, Christy, Steve, Mr. Mikami, Ms. Hirota along with Vincent and Kyrie. They didn't have dirty looks on their faces, instead, they had worried and horrified looks on their faces.  

"Hey!" I heard a voice call out. I looked in front of me and saw Chief Matsuda. "I've heard that you snuck into the mental asylum in Shibuya pretending to be a nurse and interrogating one of the patients with questions! How could you do that to her? I mean, what is wrong with you?" I was speechless and didn't know what to say. "Chief Matsuda," I began. "Please forgive me. I just wanted to know what happened to Misa! I had to see if the rumors were true!" "Oh, of course, they're true," Commander Aizawa said as he walked up to Chief Matsuda's side. "Didn't Misa tell you she didn't want to be found? That she wanted to stay there in the asylum all until she died?" The people who supported me gasped and murmured to each other. "Anyway, not that we have you, Kira," Chief Matsuda began. "We'll have a very special punishment in store for you." Alex and Claire jumped out of my arms as Chief Matsuda signaled something with his hands. "Take her away!" Commander Aizawa commanded.
