The table fell into a comfortable silence as everyone resumed eating. The clinking of utensils and the occasional murmur of conversation filled the room. Keiji, visibly relieved, focused on his pasta, occasionally glancing at (Y/n) with gratitude. He then suddenly perked up across the table, a bright grin lighting up his face.
"Oh! I almost forgot-" he said, reaching into his jacket pocket. "I found your phone at the restaurant. It was wedged between the booth cushions. Here."
Her eyes widened as the orange haired boy leaned over to hand it to her. She took the phone quickly, relief rushing through her. "Thank you, Keiji," she said earnestly, already pressing the power button.
But the screen stayed black.
She frowned, pressing it again. Still nothing. Not even the faintest glow.
"...What," she whispered, tapping the screen a little harder this time. No response. Her stomach sank.
Across from her, Kai glanced up lazily from his plate, a piece of pasta dangling from his fork. "Looks like you broke your phone," he said with a teasing lift of his brow, taking another bite. "I wouldn't mind buying you a new one."
Souta raised a brow, looking at (Y/n) with curiosity. "You broke your phone?"
(Y/n) nodded, sighing a little. "I guess it fell during the whole ordeal with Reina."
Souta furrowed his brows, concern evident in his eyes, but he continued eating without further comment. (Y/n) turned her attention back to Kai, smiling appreciatively. "That's really kind of you, Kai, but you don't need to get me a new one. I'll see if I can get this one repaired."
Her eyes then landed on Riku, who had been silently eating throughout the conversation. Not wanting to leave him out, she asked, "Are you enjoying the food?"
The brunette's eyes flicked up to meet hers. Without a word, he took a large scoop of pasta and shoved it into his mouth, making (Y/n) chuckle at his exaggerated response.
Next to Riku, Yuuto rubbed the bridge of his nose, muttering under his breath about Riku's manners. "Riku, really?"
Surprisingly, Keiji didn't laugh at the stunt. Instead, he narrowed his eyes, his playful demeanor shifting to one of concern. He knew Riku well, and that behavior seemed uncharacteristic of him. Something was off, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Clearing his throat, the blond at the table, Yuuto, turned his attention to (Y/n). "Are you close with your parents?" he asked, his tone genuinely curious.
(Y/n) shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "Not particularly. They're gone a lot for work, but we get along well enough."
Intrigued, Yuuto leaned in slightly. "What do your parents do?"
"My father is a crime scene investigator, and my mother is a vet," the girl answered, twirling her fork on her plate.
Kai, still chewing his food, piped up, "Those are impressive jobs, kind of similar to Yuuto's."
The girl glanced over at Yuuto. The boy took a napkin and dabbed his mouth before answering. "I come from a line of surgeons."
(Y/n) raised her brows in surprise, a smile forming. "That sounds very respectable."
Yuuto appreciated her comment, a hint of pride in his eyes. "Thank you. You should meet them sometime."
Riku and Kai exchanged a glance at that, a silent conversation passing between them, but they remained quiet
Keiji glanced over at (Y/n)'s almost empty plate, disappointment clouding his hazel eyes. He turned to her, his gaze pleading. "Can you stay the night?" he asked, his tone hopeful.
