Kai gasped, his chest heaving as he raised a trembling hand to swipe at Souta's face with the knife. But Souta caught him just in time, gripping Kai's wrist with bruising force, and slowly, he forced the knife downward, its tip hovering over Kai's sternum. Kai shook under the iron hold, his golden eyes filled with fear, darting helplessly between the blade and Souta's unyielding glare.

(Y/n) stood frozen, her mind racing. She knew if she didn't do something, things would only spiral further. But getting involved directly? She couldn't risk it. This wasn't like her desperation to save Taro- Kai and Souta were barely tethered to her life, and she wasn't ready to put herself on the line for them.

So she bolted, her feet pounding the floor as she tore from the room, nearly stumbling in her haste.

Kai's breaths came in ragged, labored gasps as he watched (Y/n) dart out of the room, her silhouette disappearing around the corner. Blood from his side soaked through his shirt, warm and sticky against his skin, each pulse reminding him that he didn't have much time. Souta was inches away, his grip tightening on the blade he was driving towards Kai's chest, his face contorted with a ruthless determination.

Kai's golden eyes flickered, knowing he had to act fast. If he didn't, Souta would win, and he'd be a dead man in seconds. Struggling to stay calm, he calculated his only option: a bluff. He had to be convincing. With a surge of desperation, he strained his voice, making it crack with concern and worry as he glanced past Souta's shoulder.

"(Y/n)?!" he yelled, a mix of worry and fear painted across his face. It was enough to make even the most suspicious person glance back.

And for a split second, it worked. Souta's gaze shifted over his shoulder, his grip loosening just enough for Kai to make his move.

Kai's heart thundered as he released his hands from the blade for a fleeting moment, feeling it bite deeper into his chest as it pressed against his sternum. Ignoring the searing pain, he used the fraction of freedom to twist his body, shoving his entire weight forward. His hands shot out, grappling for the handle of the knife, his fingers finding their place just as he drove it upwards, lodging the blade into the exposed flesh of Souta's throat.

Souta's eyes widened, shock and pain colliding as the blade pierced through. He instinctively reached for the knife, his fingers slick with blood as they wrapped around the handle. In a desperate, confused attempt to free himself, Souta yanked the blade out, but the act only worsened his injury. Blood gushed out in thick, violent waves, pouring down his neck and staining his hands as he stumbled backward, choking on his own breath.

Kai staggered back, one hand clutching his bleeding side as he watched Souta falter, his friend's hands frantically pressing against the gaping wound in his throat. The look of betrayal and horror on Souta's face flickered as his focus drifted from Kai to his own survival, trying in vain to stem the bleeding.

Kai's entire body shook, the pain and adrenaline blurring his vision as he took a step back, barely holding himself upright. His fingers instinctively went to the spot where the knife had almost buried itself deep into his chest. Luckily, it hadn't gone far, but the pain was still excruciating. His hands trembled slightly as he rubbed his chest, feeling the weight of what he'd just done.
