The little girl looked up at her with bright, shining eyes, her face lighting up with a huge grin. Akemi, the daughter of her family friend Mao, clung to (Y/n)'s legs as if she hadn't seen her in years.
"What are you doing here?" (Y/n) asked, gently prying Akemi's hands from her legs so she could crouch down to the girl's level. Akemi giggled, throwing her arms around (Y/n)'s neck in an excited hug.
Akemi beamed up at (Y/n) with a wide grin, her little hands clasping tightly together as she announced, "Mr. (L/n) said that we would be spending the night here!" Her voice was full of excitement, and (Y/n) returned her hug warmly before pulling back to smile at her.
"Did he now?" (Y/n) asked, raising an eyebrow playfully. "Is your sister here too?" She glanced down the hallway, expecting to see Satomi, but the house seemed unusually quiet. Akemi nodded enthusiastically.
"She's in your room!" Akemi chirped.
With a small laugh, (Y/n) scooped Akemi up in her arms, the girl's giggles filling the hallway as they made their way toward her bedroom. As (Y/n) pushed open the door, she spotted Satomi in mid-air, bouncing on her bed like it was a trampoline. The second Satomi's dark eyes landed on (Y/n), her face lit up with excitement, and without hesitation, she launched herself off the bed and landed with a soft thud on the floor. (Y/n) flinched, her heart skipping a beat in fear that the little girl might hurt herself, but Satomi popped back up with a huge grin, completely unharmed.
"Hi!" Satomi greeted, her cheeks flushed from all the jumping.
(Y/n) set Akemi down and ruffled Satomi's dark hair affectionately. "Hey, silly! Has your mom ever told you the story of the Five Little Monkeys who kept jumping on the bed?" she asked, her tone light but carrying a hint of mock-scolding as she tilted her head.
Satomi kicked at the ground sheepishly, her cheeks turning slightly red as she mumbled, "Yeeesss."
With a playful roll of her eyes, (Y/n) shifted her attention back to Akemi. "Speaking of, where is your mom?"
Akemi shrugged, her small shoulders rising and falling nonchalantly. "I dunno. She was talking with Mr. (L/n) last I saw."
"Ah," (Y/n) replied, nodding. "Well, how about we three go invade the living room, hmm? We can build a fort and defend it until you go back home. Sound like a plan?"
Akemi's face lit up like a Christmas tree, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she started bouncing in place, barely able to contain her enthusiasm. Satomi clapped her hands together messily, her earlier shyness disappearing in an instant as the idea of building a fort thrilled her.
"Yessss!" Akemi squealed, practically vibrating with energy.
(Y/n) chuckled softly as she took Satomi's hand in her left and Akemi's in her right, leading them both down the hall toward the living room. The two little girls skipped along, their energy infectious as they chattered excitedly about the fort they were about to build.
"Alright, you two," (Y/n) said with a playful grin, releasing their hands once they reached the living room. "You start planning the outline while I go grab more pillows and blankets, 'kay?"
Akemi stood at attention, her little body rigid as she gave a serious salute. "Yes, ma'am!" she declared, while Satomi - far less concerned with formalities - immediately set to work, yanking pillows off the couch with impressive focus.
(Y/n) shook her head lightly, a fond smile tugging at her lips as she left the girls to their mission.
