(Y/n) lay flat on her stomach, the softness of her bed offering a comforting embrace as she powered on the burner phone she'd been given earlier. The room around her was dark, a deep shadow blanketing everything in sight. She hadn't bothered to turn on the lights or close the blinds and curtains, leaving the room lit only by the faint glow of a street lamp outside. The pale light barely reached her, casting long shadows that made the space feel even more secluded and private.
With a quiet hum, the phone came to life in her hand, the screen glowing brightly against the darkness. (Y/n) unlocked it with a swipe, her eyes scanning the screen as the phone slowly rebooted. Notifications began to pop up, each one pinging in rapid succession as they were received. Her brows furrowed in confusion as she noticed the sheer number of them, far more than she had anticipated.
Nine missed messages from an unknown number, three from Aiko, two from Emi, and one from Riku. Intrigued, she tapped on Riku's message first. His name had caught her attention, and she was eager to see what he had sent.
As the chat opened, an image loaded on her screen. It was the sketch he had drawn of her at the café, the one he had shown her before. But this time, the drawing was different. It was more refined, with intricate shading that brought out the details in her features. The once rough lines had been smoothed, and the shadows now gave the image a depth that made it feel almost lifelike. The sketch was beautiful, capturing her in an intimate and ethereal way. Without hesitation, she began typing a reply, her fingers moving quickly over the screen.
(Y/n): That looks amazing! I knew you could draw, but I didn't know to this extent. I love it!
(Y/n) felt a slight twinge of guilt as she exited Riku's message thread. The warmth that had settled in her chest began to fade as she navigated back to her inbox, the notifications reminding her that there were still others she needed to acknowledge. Her finger hesitated for a moment, but then she tapped on Emi's chat.
The screen loaded, and two messages appeared, both from Sunday afternoon.
Emi: sorry ab what happened at the mall
Emi: did u srsly block me
The teen girl chuckled at Emi's messages. At least now everything was cleared up. Exiting the blonde's chat, (Y/n) then scrolled to Aiko's three unread messages, all from Sunday as well.
Aiko: Sleepover tn?
Aiko: Don't make me barge in ur house
Aiko: Ik where u live
(Y/n) laughed lightly at the texts. She's surprised Aiko didn't actually force (Y/n) into a sleepover last night. The teen exited the chats, her eyes landing on the only unread ones left.
That left only one set of messages to check - the ones from the unknown number. (Y/n) hesitated, her thumb hovering over the screen. There was something unnerving about seeing so many messages from someone she couldn't identify. What could they possibly want? And why had they sent so many messages in such a short span of time? Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she finally clicked on the thread.
Unsaved Number: I heard about what you did today. You saved a life. Do you think she'd save yours?
Unsaved Number: Were you scared? Do I scare you?
Unsaved Number: Broken phone, huh? And here I thought you had finally blocked me.
Unsaved Number: You'll be mine before you get a chance to get a new phone. You'll likely never see these messages.
