TW: MENTIONS OF S*ICIDE

The car ride felt endless. (Y/n) sat in silence, her mind a whirlwind of emotion as she stared blankly out the window. The scenery passed in a blur, but she couldn't focus on anything except the questions swirling in her head. Would she cry? Should she have brought flowers? What if someone saw her - a girl in a hospital gown - wandering the cemetery?

She stole a glance at Kai, who was driving with one hand on the wheel, his other elbow propped against the window. His golden eyes caught hers for a fleeting moment, as if sensing her gaze. "You look nervous," he observed, his tone casual yet perceptive.

(Y/n) shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her fingers tangling with each other. "I am," she admitted, her voice small.

Kai sighed softly, running a hand through his messy hair. "Don't worry. We're almost there," he murmured, his words meant to reassure, but they didn't quite reach her. His grip on the steering wheel tightened as he adjusted his posture, the silence between them returning, heavier now.

Minutes passed like hours, and soon Kai pulled up to the cemetery. The car rolled to a stop, the engine's quiet hum cutting off abruptly. Without a word, (Y/n) opened the door, stepping out into the cool night air. The soft grass beneath her bare feet felt foreign, the sensation pulling her attention briefly away from the tight knot of anxiety forming in her chest. She took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the rows of headstones stretching endlessly before her.

She heard the car door shut behind her, the faint click almost drowned out by the sound of her heartbeat pounding in her ears. She glanced over her shoulder at Kai, who stood beside the car, his posture relaxed but his gaze sharp as he watched her carefully.

With a tilt of her head, she silently asked for direction, and Kai pointed ahead, his golden eyes solemn. Following his guidance, (Y/n) turned to the left, her legs moving automatically as if they knew the way before her heart could catch up. She walked slowly, careful to step around the graves, each one a reminder of the finality she was about to confront.

Kai trailed a few paces behind her, his presence quiet but a distant support. He kept his distance, giving her the space she needed as they weaved through the rows of headstones. Every step made the air feel thicker, heavier, until it pressed down on her chest like a weight she couldn't shake.

And then she saw it.

Taro Nozawa.

The letters carved into the pristine stone seemed too harsh, too permanent. Her breath hitched as she froze in place, the grass around his grave still untouched, as if the earth itself hadn't yet accepted that he was truly gone. The reality of it hit her like a wave, and she felt the lump in her throat grow bigger, almost suffocating her.

Taro's name stared back at her, cold and unyielding. A boy she once knew, once laughed with, once stood beside in that corn maze- now just a memory etched into stone. She could still feel the heat of the fire on her skin, hear the crackling flames as they consumed everything around them. And Taro...he had been there, trapped in the blaze while she had desperately tried to save him.

But she couldn't.

The weight of that failure settled heavily in her chest as her eyes filled with tears. She hadn't cried for him yet. Not really. She had pushed it all down, buried it under the pain and the recovery, under the visits and the distractions. But now, standing in front of his grave, there was no escape from it.
