Aiko ascended the stairs of the school, her footsteps echoing in the mostly empty stairwell. She was on a mission to find (Y/n), but she suddenly stopped in her tracks when she heard (Y/n)'s name being mentioned. Instinctively, Aiko's ears perked up, curiosity and concern intertwining in her mind. She inched closer to the railing, careful to keep quiet. The voices she heard were hushed but carried an urgency that garnered her interest.
Peeking through the narrow gaps in the railing, Aiko squinted to get a better view of the conversation below. The first thing she noticed was a mop of yellow blond hair. Aiko vaguely recognized him from the few times she waited for (Y/n) after her friend's biology class. He was often hanging around inside the classroom after the bell, always finishing up some notes or work. Standing next to him was a gray haired boy that Aiko couldn't recognize at all. His features were sharp, and his demeanor screamed trouble. They both looked tense, as if their conversation held serious weight.
The gray haired boy's voice, rough and tinged with frustration, cut through the air. "I swear that fucker was this close to bagging her," he said, holding up his hand and showing a small gap between his thumb and index finger. "If I hadn't stepped in, we'd be fucked."
Aiko's eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat. She pressed herself against the cool metal railing, straining her ears even harder. Were they talking about (Y/n)?
The blond boy rubbed the bridge of his nose, his brows furrowed in what seemed to be frustration or stress. His voice, softer and more gravelly, spoke just as the school bell rang, signaling the start of the next period. "We need to speed things up. You said his name was Taro?"
The gray haired boy nodded, a sour look etched across his face. The blond sighed heavily, clearly pondering something. "Okay. We'll use Keiji to distract him. He's a good deterrent."
The gray haired boy scoffed, a sneer twisting his lips. "We need more than just a deterrent. He needs to go," he muttered darkly, the venom in his tone unmistakable. He still seemed pissed off about whatever had gone down that morning.
Aiko's ears perked up at the mention of Keiji's name. How was that nuisance involved in this? And... get rid of Taro? Curiosity and unease swirled inside her as she leaned in closer, trying to get a better view of the two boys. If she could identify the gray haired one, it would make warning (Y/n) easier. Her frustration mounted when she realized she could only see the back of his head, gray hair falling messily over his shoulders.
The blond boy scoffed at something the gray haired one had said, visibly on edge. "Don't be rash. One wrong move and all of this goes down the drain" he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. The gray haired boy didn't back down, his own eyes narrowing in response, his tone venomous as he started to say, "You don't know shi-"
But before he could finish, the echo of footsteps from upstairs resonated through the stairwell. Aiko's heart skipped a beat, and she pressed herself against the railing, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible. She cursed under her breath as a student rounded the corner above her, heading down the stairs. The figure passed by without a glance, completely unaware of the tension in the air.
Risking another glance down, Aiko's stomach dropped. Both boys were staring directly at her. The blond was smiling, but the politeness in his expression didn't reach his sharp, yellow eyes. The gray haired boy looked bored, but his teal eyes held a flicker of recognition. They had seen her.
Aiko fought to keep her face blank, her expression unreadable. She didn't let her fear show as she straightened up and calmly walked up the stairs, her steps even and deliberate. She could feel their eyes on her back until she disappeared from their view. Her heart pounded in her chest, adrenaline spiking her senses. Shit. She needed to find (Y/n) and warn her to stay away from those two. As she hurried down the hall, Aiko mentally cataloged their appearances, etching their images into her memory: gray unkempt hair, teal eyes, a hoodie. Yellow hair, yellow eyes, glasses. She repeated these details over and over like a mantra.
