"I am," (Y/n) rasped out, her voice hoarse and barely audible.

Riku's grip on her hand tightened in response, his silent distress evident in the way his fingers clutched hers. She winced, pain shooting up from the still-healing wound on her hand where a shard had cut deep. Noticing, Riku immediately loosened his hold, his expression shifting into one of deep regret, his brows furrowing with guilt.

Across the room, Yuuto and Souta exchanged glances, both eyeing Kai with different levels of suspicion. Kai, pale as a sheet, took a few cautious steps forward, as if he were approaching something fragile and sacred. His eyes were wide, fixated on (Y/n) like he couldn't believe she was actually sitting up in the hospital bed, breathing, alive.

"Does... does it hurt?" he asked quietly, his gaze roving over the bandages that wrapped her body. His voice trembled slightly, full of hesitation.

(Y/n) hadn't seen herself yet, hadn't even caught a glimpse of her reflection. But from the way Kai stared at her, she imagined it wasn't pretty.

Souta scoffed from the side, his tone sharp with irritation. "What do you think?" he snapped, crossing his arms. His purple hair swayed as he leaned back against the window, eyes rolling in disbelief at Kai's question.

But Kai didn't even react to Souta's hostility. His eyes remained glued to (Y/n), a mixture of horror and concern painted across his face. It was like he couldn't look away, like seeing her in this condition was something he had to process.

Yuuto, meanwhile, wasn't even paying attention to the brewing tension between the two. His sharp eyes scanned the room, as if searching for (Y/n)'s medical chart or some kind of clue to her condition. "She's probably not in much pain right now," he commented, his voice analytical and detached. "I wouldn't be surprised if she's on some high-end pain medications."

If only that were true. (Y/n) gritted her teeth against the dull ache that throbbed under her bandages. Whatever they had given her wasn't doing nearly enough to mask the pain radiating through her body. She didn't speak again, her throat too raw to form more words.

Kai's expression softened as he took another step toward her, but before he could get too close, Riku's head snapped up, his sharp eyes sending an unspoken warning to Kai. Stop there. And surprisingly, Kai did, freezing mid-step.

"When... when will you be discharged?" Kai's voice was distant, hollow, as if the question was more for him than her.

Yuuto answered before (Y/n) could muster a response. "Probably not for a few days, maybe a couple weeks."

A shocked gasp escaped her before she could stop it, her eyes widening. "Weeks?" she croaked out. I can't be out of school for that long! Well... actually, the thought of missing school doesn't sound so bad. Maybe this wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Yuuto nodded, his expression serious. He tried to keep his lips from turning downwards, but the worry in his eyes betrayed him. "Especially when your voice sounds like that. Who knows what type of damage your lungs went through? It's going to take quite a while to build up your strength again, I presume."

"Stop acting like you know everything. You're a 17-year-old in high school. Act like it," Souta scolded, his sharp tone slicing through the tense air as he shot a glare at Yuuto.

Yuuto, never one to back down from a challenge, quickly matched the intensity of Souta's glare. The two boys engaged in a silent battle, their eyes locked, each daring the other to stand down. Neither of them blinked, the air around them bristling with unspoken resentment.

While the tension mounted between the two, Kai stepped quietly around (Y/n)'s hospital bed, his movements slow and deliberate. His golden eyes searched her face, his expression conflicted, as if he was battling something within himself. Riku, who had been holding (Y/n)'s hand until now, released her, his eyes flicking toward Kai, waiting to intervene if necessary.
