Kai's expression softened as he took another step toward her, but before he could get too close, Riku's head snapped up, his sharp eyes sending an unspoken warning to Kai. Stop there. And surprisingly, Kai did, freezing mid-step.

"When... when will you be discharged?" Kai's voice was distant, hollow, as if the question was more for him than her.

Yuuto answered before (Y/n) could muster a response. "Probably not for a few days, maybe a couple weeks."

A shocked gasp escaped her before she could stop it, her eyes widening. "Weeks?" she croaked out. I can't be out of school for that long! Well... actually, the thought of missing school doesn't sound so bad. Maybe this wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Yuuto nodded, his expression serious. He tried to keep his lips from turning downwards, but the worry in his eyes betrayed him. "Especially when your voice sounds like that. Who knows what type of damage your lungs went through? It's going to take quite a while to build up your strength again, I presume."

"Stop acting like you know everything. You're a 17-year-old in high school. Act like it," Souta scolded, his sharp tone slicing through the tense air as he shot a glare at Yuuto.

Yuuto, never one to back down from a challenge, quickly matched the intensity of Souta's glare. The two boys engaged in a silent battle, their eyes locked, each daring the other to stand down. Neither of them blinked, the air around them bristling with unspoken resentment.

While the tension mounted between the two, Kai stepped quietly around (Y/n)'s hospital bed, his movements slow and deliberate. His golden eyes searched her face, his expression conflicted, as if he was battling something within himself. Riku, who had been holding (Y/n)'s hand until now, released her, his eyes flicking toward Kai, waiting to intervene if necessary.

Kai continued to lean closer to (Y/n), his gaze intense, as if he were trying to read every emotion, every thought swirling in her mind. He didn't stop until their faces were just a foot apart. His voice, when he finally spoke, was barely above a whisper, almost like he was talking to himself rather than her.

"You could've died..." His words lingered in the space between them, and though his voice was soft, it carried the weight of his fear and disbelief. His golden eyes, usually so full of life, looked both empty and overwhelmed, as though he was struggling to comprehend the reality of seeing her like this.

Before (Y/n) could respond, Yuuto noticed Kai's proximity and snapped, "Don't lean so close to her. Stress compromises the immune system. You'll get her sick after what she went through."

Kai's eyes snapped toward Yuuto, the tension between them somehow worse than when Souta had been glaring at the blond. Kai's expression hardened as he responded coldly, "She's in a fucking hospital. What the hell do you expect?"

Yuuto opened his mouth to argue. "If anything, I expect a nosocomi-"

(Y/n) tuned them out. Their argument, their voices, all of it faded into a dull hum as her mind drifted elsewhere. Taro. The name echoed through her thoughts, refusing to leave her in peace. She couldn't stop thinking about him, about how she had carried him, about how he had opened his eyes for just a moment before it all went wrong. Especially now that Riku had let go of her hand, she felt untethered, lost in the memories of that horrible night.

Souta, who had been lounging against the windowsill, noticed the faraway look in (Y/n)'s eyes. His posture relaxed slightly as he glanced between Yuuto and Kai, both too absorbed in their argument to realize what was happening. Pushing himself off the wall, he moved to the end of (Y/n)'s hospital bed, placing his hands on the guard rail. His voice was unusually soft when he spoke, a stark contrast to his usual sharpness.
