She walked quickly, silently, but every creak of the floorboards beneath her made her heart pound louder. She just had to make it to the front door. The thought of it kept her moving, kept her pushing through the haze of exhaustion and pain.
But then, as she was about to reach the door, she heard it.
Footsteps.
Descending from upstairs.
Her breath caught in her throat. Her pulse skyrocketed. She froze, every muscle locking in place.
Shit.
She couldn't afford to get caught now, not when she was so close. She darted to the nearest door, her eyes wide with panic. It was a door to the basement. Her instincts screamed at her to turn around, to escape through the front door, but there wasn't time.
Just as her fingers grazed the handle of the door, something solid collided with her back.
Before she could react, she was slammed into the floor, her face hitting the wood with a sickening thud. The breath was knocked from her lungs, and for a split second, she thought she might pass out.
"I finally caught you!" A Keiji exclaimed from above her. His voice was full of triumph, of excitement, as though his victory were the sweetest thing he could savor.
Her body reacted on instinct, her arms flailing, trying to push him off. She reached for anything, her fingers brushing the cool steel of the gun he had been holding- no, the gun he still held.
"No, no, no!" She reached for it, hoping that she could wrest it from his hand, that maybe she could turn the tide and make a run for it.
But he clicked his tongue in mock disapproval, his grip tightening on the weapon. "Would you even know how to work this thing?" he teased, a sickening playfulness in his voice, as if he were amused by her efforts. He seemed to take pleasure in her desperation, in the way her body trembled beneath his.
"Now that I've got you..." He leaned closer, his breath hot against her ear. "Are you my reward?"
His words were like acid in her ears, each syllable dripping with malice. She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes from the overwhelming frustration, the helplessness of her situation. She fought against him, but it was like fighting against a wall.
He chuckled softly at her struggle, as though she were nothing more than a toy to be played with. "You're so cute like that..." His voice had softened, almost affectionate. "My little honey bunny."
Her stomach churned at the nickname, at the casual cruelty that rolled off his tongue. She could feel him nibbling at her nose, the pressure of his lips against her skin sending shivers of revulsion down her spine. It was all too much. Too much for her to handle. Too much for her to endure.
But then, he stood up, pulling away from her with a final, lingering touch. She immediately scrambled to push herself off the ground, her arms shaking as she tried to crawl away from him, to get any distance- any hope of escape.
But before she could even get her bearings, he was already yanking open the basement door with a violent motion, his hand gripping her wrist in a vice-like hold.
