(Y/n) sat quietly in the bathroom, her eyes unfocused, her mind still caught in the whirlwind of what had just happened. She barely registered Kai as he worked methodically, cleaning the blood from her hands with the utmost care. He didn't say much- he didn't have to. His silence was more comforting than words could have been at that moment.
Her gaze drifted down to her hand as he began wrapping the bandage around her palm. The movement was slow and deliberate, as if he were scared of hurting her. Once he secured the bandage, Kai softly asked, "It's not too tight, is it?"
(Y/n) blinked, her mind snapping back to the present moment. "It's fine," she replied, though her voice was hollow, almost robotic. She was exhausted, but she knew that sleep wouldn't come easily tonight.
Kai watched her for a moment longer, noticing the vacant look in her eyes. He frowned slightly, a quiet sigh escaping him as he stood up, taking a step toward the doorway. "When you're ready... come on out," he said gently. "I think I know something that'll help with your thoughts."
With that, he disappeared from the bathroom, leaving her alone in the silence. But it wasn't silent in her head. Her thoughts raced, replaying every detail of the encounter with Asahi.
Her eyes trailed down to her bandaged hand where a small tint of pink seeped through the white fabric. She slouched over, letting out a heavy sigh. I just have to make it to tomorrow without running into him... that should be easy, right? She tried to convince herself. But deep down, she wasn't sure. The house felt suffocating now. The walls that once felt like a sanctuary now seemed to close in around her.
After what felt like an eternity, (Y/n) finally steeled herself, forcing her body to move. She stood up lazily from the toilet seat, flicking off the bathroom light as she stepped into Kai's room.
His room was shrouded in darkness, illuminated only by the natural glow of the night sky. The moonlight streamed through the massive skylight in his ceiling, casting soft beams that stretched across the floor. Two large windows were open, allowing a gentle breeze to flow through the space. The air was cool, and for the first time since the incident, (Y/n) felt like she could breathe.
Kai sat by one of the windows, his back resting against the frame as he craned his neck upwards, watching the stars. The soft hum of night surrounded him, and his presence felt like a quiet, grounding force. He didn't look at her as he spoke, his voice mellow. "You can sit down if you'd like."
His words made something twist in her chest, a bitter reminder of Asahi. She shook her head, pushing the thought away. I'm not going to let him control me, she thought resolutely.
Taking a deep breath, (Y/n) walked toward the window, leaning against the sill next to Kai. He spared a glance at her, a small, amused smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Not a fan of heights?"
She bit her lip, her gaze following the dark expanse below them. It wasn't the height that scared her. "Not really... I just feel more secure here."
Kai hummed, the gentle breeze blowing past his dark locks. "You know... some say that you have to get out of your comfort zone to grow."
The girl mulled over the thought. "I mean, sure. But I don't see how I'd grow much by sitting on the sill of a window," she mused. "Besides, didn't you say you know something that'll help clear my head?"
The boy chuckled at her response. "Mm. Look up."
She followed his gaze, her eyes scanning over the sparkling night sky. It wasn't clouded by night pollution, nor was it overshadowed by the moon's light. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she just took in the moment.
