The impact sent her stumbling back, her phone slipping from her hand and clattering onto the concrete floor. The flashlight beam spun wildly, illuminating brief flashes of hanging meat and shadowy figures, before it came to a rest facing upward, casting eerie shadows on the ceiling.

Reina's breath hitched, panic flooding her senses as she slowly lifted her eyes to meet the person standing in front of her. Her heart dropped into her stomach as the familiar figure came into focus, looming over her with an expression she couldn't quite read in the dim light.

Riku?

For a split second, she froze, her brain struggling to process what was happening. His face was shadowed by the dim light of the basement, but there was something off about the way he stood there- too calm, too still. The stench of decay and the cold from the freezer seemed to hang in the air between them, an unspoken acknowledgment of what lay hidden behind her.

Immediately, Reina's hands shot out, grabbing Riku by the arms with a panicked urgency. "Don't walk further!" she hissed, her voice barely above a whisper, eyes wide with fear. She couldn't bring herself to glance behind her, where the horrible scene was etched into her mind. Her heart raced as she tried to control her breath, but it was futile.

Riku's brown eyes flicked to the body just briefly, his face remaining as unreadable as ever. His expression didn't change; he didn't flinch or recoil. Instead, he seemed to be thinking, processing what she'd just prevented him from stepping into. There was a terrifying calm in the way he stood there, almost detached. It sent a chill down Reina's spine, though she didn't have time to question it.

Without waiting for him to respond, she grabbed his wrist, her fingers trembling as she pulled him out of the deep freeze. She could feel her breath quicken, the weight of what she'd seen pressing down on her like a vice. "Riku, we need to find Souta. Now. Keiji- he-" Her voice broke as her thoughts raced faster than her words. She was about to say more when she noticed that Riku wasn't looking at her. Instead, his gaze was fixed on something else; the key, still lodged in the keyhole of the deep freeze.

His eyes then methodically scanned the basement: the puddle of water beneath the malfunctioning heater, the leaking pipe, and finally, back to her. Reina's heart pounded as she cast a glance over her shoulder, terrified that at any moment, Keiji would descend the stairs and catch them.

"We need to be extremely careful," she whispered, voice barely holding steady. She tightened her grip on Riku's arm, trying to urge him forward. But instead of moving, he let out a slow, deliberate breath, closing his eyes as if he was centering himself. Then, in a gesture that confused her, he calmly reached out and locked the deep freeze door, sealing it shut once more.

"Riku, what are you doing?" she stammered, her voice a mix of fear and disbelief. But her urgency overshadowed her confusion, and she tried to pull him along again, desperate to escape the basement and whatever horrors Keiji had hidden down here. Riku, however, remained rooted in place. He shook off her grip with an unsettling calm, brushing her away with a silent but firm refusal.

"Riku?" she repeated, her voice trembling. She could feel herself shaking, her mind screaming for them to leave while they still had the chance.

Riku didn't respond. His furrowed brows were the only hint of emotion on his otherwise neutral face. He stepped forward carefully, avoiding the water pooling on the floor as he approached the heater. The quiet splash of his shoes sent ripples across the surface, and Reina hesitated, watching him with wide, fearful eyes.

She took a tentative step after him, the cold water shocking her feet, but stopped when Riku held up his hand, silently telling her to wait. She froze, standing in the puddle, her feet cold and damp, too terrified to take another step. Behind her, the dreadful presence of the body seemed to loom, unseen but undeniable.
