The day had gone by in a blur for (Y/n). She, Emi, and Kai had all decided to skip their first class, retreating to the roof where the duo shared a cigarette while they kept her company. Sitting in the cool morning air, (Y/n) felt a strange mixture of relief and unease. The conversation had flowed casually between the two friends, but it wasn't until Kai mentioned that Souta had told Reina everything that had happened with Aiko that (Y/n) truly snapped back to reality.
Reina wanted nothing to do with Aiko now. That news was a bittersweet balm to the emotional wound she had been carrying. So, when lunch came around, it didn't take long for Reina to join them, along with Keiji, Hayami, and Emi, and somehow, in their chaotic group dynamic, (Y/n) found herself smiling genuinely. For the first time in what felt like forever, the weight in her chest lightened just a little.
But then came math class.
The moment (Y/n) entered the room, she felt her heart sink. She was still assigned to sit next to Aiko. Her stomach churned at the thought, and as soon as she sat down, she could feel Aiko's eyes on her, practically begging for forgiveness. Aiko had tried to speak to her a few times, but (Y/n) didn't even look her way.
Instead, her attention drifted occasionally to the back of the room, where Riku sat. His stoic expression was fixed on the lesson as if yesterday hadn't happened at all. (Y/n) felt a sharp pang in her chest, but what could she do? She couldn't force him to talk, and she certainly wasn't going to press any harder. Not after everything that had already happened.
Now, as (Y/n) walked through the empty halls, finishing her final serving of detention, the day felt like an eternity. She let out a sigh as she pushed open the entrance doors, stepping into the crisp, cold air. The chill bit at her skin, and for once, she was thankful that Emi had insisted she wear layers. Shivering slightly, (Y/n) shoved her hands into her pockets and walked past the school gates, heading down the familiar sidewalk toward home.
She had walked this path countless times before, though her steps were slower today, dragging with the exhaustion she felt deep in her bones. As she turned into a quieter neighborhood, her senses dulled, her thoughts wandering.
That's why she didn't notice the car pulling up behind her.
It wasn't until she heard the distinct sound of a car door shutting that she glanced over her shoulder. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw three men step out of the vehicle, their gazes locked on her. Each of them had different shades of blue hair, but their faces were unfamiliar. (Y/n) didn't recognize any of them, though something about their presence sent alarm bells ringing in the back of her mind.
Two more car doors slammed shut, the sound cutting through the otherwise quiet street like a warning. (Y/n)'s breath hitched, her steps faltering as the three men began walking toward her with purpose. Their eyes, a mix of yellow and green, glinted coldly under the streetlights, and she suddenly realized how isolated this part of the neighborhood felt.
Her heart began to race.
(Y/n)'s pulse hammered in her ears as she glanced back at the three men closing in on her. She wasn't a total idiot, she knew this was bad. Really bad. Without wasting another second, her legs propelled her into a full sprint, adrenaline taking over as she bolted down the street.
The cold air burned in her lungs as her sneakers slapped against the pavement, echoing down the otherwise silent neighborhood. Panic flooded her thoughts, and though her body screamed from exhaustion, she pushed herself harder. She didn't have time to think, only to move.
Her heart dropped when she realized the men weren't just following; they were gaining on her. Their footsteps were heavy, echoing menacingly behind her, growing louder with each passing second.
