(Y/n) raced through the forest, her breath coming out in clouds of white that billowed and faded in the freezing November air. Her wedding dress tangled in branches and thorns, snagging on every limb that reached out to her, as if the woods themselves tried to keep her within their clutches. She tore the fabric free each time, heedless of the ripping sounds or the scratches she felt underneath. She didn't hear footsteps behind her, but the memory of Keiji's smirk and the sick satisfaction in his eyes propelled her forward. She couldn't afford to be caught.

The cold air was brutal on her skin, biting into her with every sharp gust. It seeped through the thin fabric of her dress, chilling her to the bone, but she welcomed it. Her lungs ached, each gasp sending icy needles down her throat, and her neck throbbed from her recent injury. But in a strange way, the cold soothed the feverish ache under her skin, numbing the pain enough for her to keep pushing forward. She panted, each breath heavier than the last; running had never been her strong suit, but tonight, her fear was stronger than her exhaustion.

Her mind raced, formulating a plan even as her legs threatened to give out beneath her. She pictured herself reaching the police station, walking in and confessing everything. She'd tell them about the nightmare she'd endured, about the hell hidden within that estate. And then she'd beg them to go back for Emi, to pull her from that basement before it was too late. They'd believe her, she told herself. She'd make them believe her.

Maybe the police could arrange witness protection, a way to keep her and her family safe. She'd leave behind this twisted nightmare and start somewhere new. She'd see her mom and dad again, she'd get to laugh with Akemi and Satomi the way she used to. The thought fueled her, gave her the strength to ignore her aching muscles and the raw scrape of her throat.

The woods stretched before her, endless and dark, but she kept running, desperate to reach the edge of the forest. Freedom, home, and safety were just beyond it.

(Y/n)'s thoughts shattered the moment she heard the sharp crack of a gunshot. A burning heat seared past the side of her head, a sensation too hot and sudden to ignore. Her hand flew up to her ear, her fingers brushing over something wet and sticky, spreading across her skin. Her heart slammed against her chest as she registered the warmth trailing down her fingers- blood. She felt around the edge of her ear, her eyes going wide as the realization hit her: a chunk of it was gone.

"Awh, did I miss?" Keiji's voice rang out in the distance, his whine echoing through the trees. "I was going for a headshot!" His laugh, cold and careless, rippled across the forest.

Her heart leapt, pounding even harder as she forced her legs into motion, running faster than she thought possible. Clutching her wounded ear, she stumbled, desperate to put as much distance between her and that chilling voice. Her mind screamed at her, reminding her of the danger at every heartbeat. He's got a gun. He's shooting. He's actually shooting.

Another shot rang out, and this time she watched in horror as the tree beside her exploded into a spray of bark, splinters raining down like sharp little daggers. Her heart jolted, her pulse a wild, erratic thrum as she dodged to the side, slipping into a zigzagging run. Every instinct screamed at her to get low, to be unpredictable, to make herself a harder target. Her mind spun wildly, barely able to grasp what was happening.

It hasn't even been five minutes yet... The bitter thought flared through her mind, laced with both fear and anger. Her lungs burned, but she didn't let herself slow down, her feet pushing through the leaf-strewn ground, tearing through the brush. She didn't know how much longer she could keep this up, but she knew one thing: she couldn't let him catch her.
