(Y/n) looked up from her desk just in time to notice Souta approaching. He moved with easy confidence, hands tucked casually in his pockets as he strolled over to where she and Hayami sat. His gaze landed on Emi's portrait that lay in front of her, one brow arching as he studied it.
"You know no one's going to believe you drew that, right?" he teased, his tone light.
Usually, (Y/n) would have shot back a sarcastic comment or at least cracked a smile, but today, she was too drained to muster anything up. Instead, she just waved him off weakly. "I don't care," she muttered, her voice lacking its usual spark.
Souta quirked a brow, picking up on her downtrodden tone. "Something on your mind?" he asked, his purple eyes scanning her face for clues.
(Y/n) shook her head, the weight of everything pressing down on her shoulders. "I don't really want to talk about it," she admitted, not wanting to burden him or Hayami with her worries.
Souta hummed thoughtfully, sensing the heaviness in her words. But instead of pressing further, he leaned in just enough to offer a sliver of hope. "Well, hopefully later will cheer you up."
(Y/n) lifted her cheek from the palm of her hand, staring at him in mild confusion. "What?" she asked, her exhaustion showing in the slow blink of her eyes.
Souta rolled his eyes, a hint of a playful smirk tugging at his lips. "You know, Riku... the rooftop?" he hinted, his voice laced with something secretive.
(Y/n) blinked again, trying to process. "How do you know about that?" she asked, her mind struggling to keep up.
A small smile curved Souta's lips, almost proud. "Riku's been working on this surprise for a while. So I'm hoping it'll cheer you up."
For a moment, (Y/n) just stared at him, caught between confusion and a faint flicker of curiosity. She took a deep breath, managing a small smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I hope so too."
Souta nodded, content with her response for now before his gaze shifted to Hayami's latest sketch. His purple eyes sparkled with amusement as he took in the rough yet undeniably accurate portrayal of (Y/n). Her expression was drawn in a way that captured the vulnerability she felt but didn't want to admit. The downturned mouth, the heavy eyelids, the weight on her shoulders- Hayami had captured it all with startling precision.
"Is that little miss depressed?" Souta mused, his teasing tone softer now, not mocking but more playful. He grabbed an extra pencil lying on Hayami's desk, and, with Hayami's permission, began helping her with the shading.
Hayami chuckled, nodding in agreement as she continued working on the sketch. The two of them seemed to fall into an easy rhythm, their pencils moving in sync as they added more detail to the drawing. (Y/n) watched them, bored and a little intrigued, noting how much faster the portrait was coming along with both of them working together.
As the image took shape, (Y/n) couldn't help but feel a strange sense of detachment. It was her they were drawing, yet it didn't quite feel like her. The person on the paper looked... vulnerable. Almost fragile. It was unnerving to see herself through someone else's eyes, especially when she tried so hard to hide that side of herself.
Hayami glanced up from her work, catching (Y/n)'s gaze. She offered a kind smile, her tone gentle but teasing. "Don't you look silly?"
(Y/n) forced a laugh, though the weight in her chest hadn't lifted. "Yeah... silly," she echoed, her voice soft as she tried to ignore the uneasy feeling creeping over her.
