After what felt like an eternity, a violent cough broke the silence, followed by another and another. (Y/n) whipped her head back toward the shoreline, seeing Kai sputtering, water spilling from his mouth as his body convulsed. Souta quickly backed up, giving him space, but his eyes immediately shifted to (Y/n). He noticed the way she was shivering, her skin pale and lips tinged blue from the cold.

Souta stood up, his soaked clothes clinging to his body. He moved as if to take off his jacket for her, but it was as drenched as hers. It would only make things worse. He glanced toward the road, then nodded in the direction of the car. "You should go wait inside. Turn the heat on. The car's already started."

(Y/n) hesitated, her body still locked in the aftershock of everything that had just happened. The adrenaline that had been keeping her going was long gone, leaving her feeling like she couldn't move. But she forced herself to her feet, her legs trembling beneath her. Her eyes lingered on Kai, now on his hands and knees, hacking up water and gasping for air, his breaths uneven and desperate as blood coated the sand under him.

A pang of guilt struck her, unexpected and unwelcome. She didn't want to kill him- she never wanted it to go this far. But in that moment, it had been her life over his, and she had chosen herself. She had no regrets about that. She couldn't.

As Souta moved toward Kai, giving his back a few solid hits to help clear his lungs, (Y/n) turned and started her slow, painful walk toward the main road. Each step felt heavier than the last, her soggy shoes squishing with every movement, the wet sand clinging to her ankles. She was cold, drenched, and exhausted, her entire body aching from the physical and mental strain.

In the distance, she saw the soft glow of headlights piercing through the darkness. The car was waiting for her, its engine quietly humming in the night. She swallowed hard, her throat still raw, but she pushed forward, her eyes locked on those lights as if they were her only salvation.

When she reached the car, she didn't hesitate. She stepped in front of the still-running vehicle, barely registering the cold air swirling around her. Without a second thought, she climbed into the front passenger seat, collapsing into it as her soaked clothes immediately soaked into the leather beneath her. The expensive material was ruined, but that was the least of her worries now.

Her fingers fumbled as she reached for the heat controls, turning it up as high as it would go. Warm air began to blow through the vents, not fast enough to stop the violent shivers that wracked her body, but enough to give her hope that she'd warm up soon.

For extra measure, she reached over and made sure that every single door was locked. Her hands shook as she did it, her mind flashing back to the moment in the water, to Kai's hand gripping her ankle, pulling her back toward the depths.

(Y/n) pulled her arms tightly across her chest, shivering as the warmth of the car's heater gradually spread over her skin. The heat helped, but her thoughts were still frigid, frozen with the events of the past hour. How did it get to this point? The answer was clearer than she wanted to admit: the boys. Ever since she met them, her life had taken a sharp downturn, spiraling into chaos. But still... she couldn't bring herself to hate all of them.

Souta had just saved her, after all. Riku had been there, a quiet anchor holding her down when everything else threatened to overwhelm her. Yuuto always watched out for her, keeping an eye on things she didn't even notice herself. And Keiji- he had been a nice distraction, a sharp mind that could make her forget about everything else for a while.

But then there was Kai. And Asahi.

They were the ones who had dragged her to the darkest edges of herself. Asahi with his manipulative, predatory behavior, and Kai- she didn't even have the words for what he had done tonight.
