Kai gripped the steering wheel tighter as he sped down the dark, winding roads, his jaw clenched in frustration. He kept flicking his gaze between the road ahead and (Y/n) beside him. She was flushed, her skin clammy and cold, but her cheeks were flushed with fever. Every shallow breath she took made him feel like a failure.

He knew she needed medical attention; her pupils were blown wide, and her glassy eyes looked like she was barely clinging to consciousness. A deep pit of guilt settled in his stomach, knowing that the crash had only worsened her condition. And yet, he couldn't take her to a hospital. Not with her wanted for first-degree murder.

The estate was the only place left, even though the very thought of bringing her back there made bile rise in his throat. He didn't want her anywhere near that house. But there was no other choice. She needed help, and the others would have to help him, whether they liked it or not.

Kai exhaled sharply as the rusted gates of the estate came into view, still dragging noisily across the ground as they opened, scraping against metal. He barely waited for them to finish opening before speeding through, the car lurching forward.

He parked haphazardly at the entrance, leaving the engine sputtering for a moment before shutting it off. In a rush, Kai climbed out and rounded the car to the passenger side.

When he opened the door, (Y/n) was still slumped limply in the seat, her head lolling slightly to one side. His heart thudded painfully in his chest as he stared at her, half expecting her to stir- to say something. Anything. But she didn't.

"Come on, (Y/n)..." Kai muttered, sliding an arm beneath her knees and the other behind her back. She didn't even flinch.

He lifted her effortlessly, cradling her in his arms. Her limp body felt unnervingly light, and it scared him how lifeless she seemed.

The house stood before him, eerily silent in the setting moonlight, its windows like dark, empty eyes. For once, there were no sounds, no yelling, no chaos, just dead, suffocating stillness. Kai adjusted his grip on her and kicked the front door open with his foot. It swung inward with a low creak, and he stepped inside.

"Hello?" His voice echoed through the dim hallways, bouncing off the walls. There was no answer. No footsteps. No sign of anyone.

His nerves prickled. Where the hell was everyone? It wasn't like the estate to be this quiet. But right now, the emptiness was a small mercy. He didn't have time to deal with the others.

Kai didn't waste another second. He carried her through the hallway, his footsteps heavy on the old wooden floors. His eyes flickered anxiously around the house as he made his way toward the stairs. Still no one.

The climb up the staircase was harder than he thought, his muscles strained as the adrenaline from earlier began to fade, leaving exhaustion creeping in. But he held her tighter, whispering soft reassurances even though she couldn't hear them.

"You'll be okay, I've got you. Just hang on, my love."

When he reached the second floor, he moved down the dimly lit hallway leading to her room. Moonlight streamed weakly through the cracks of the curtains, painting slashes of silver on the walls.

Once inside, he placed her gently on the bed, brushing the damp strands of hair from her flushed face. She didn't stir, her body slack and fevered, barely clinging to consciousness.

For a moment, Kai just stood there, his eyes lingering on her still form. He wanted to stay, to watch over her, but there were other matters to attend to. With a sigh, he turned on his heel and slipped out of the room, pulling the door shut quietly behind him.
