(Y/n) spent the next few minutes focused on slowing her heartbeat, feeling the raw chill of the winter air bite through her clothes as it swept in through broken windows. The abandoned building around her was silent and still, every shadow stretching long and eerie in the moonlight filtering through fractured walls. Her breath condensed in small puffs in the frigid air as she steadied herself. But as cold as it was, she welcomed the chill, letting it sharpen her senses, keep her grounded.

"Are you cold?" Asahi's voice cut through the silence, sounding almost casual, as if they were old friends instead of captor and captive.

(Y/n) didn't respond immediately, watching the foggy trail of her breath as she exhaled. Then she glanced at him, resting her head back against the wall and leaning into the numbing cold of the concrete. "You know you're going to get arrested, right?" she said, her voice cool and even.

Asahi's brow arched with mild amusement as he crossed his arms. "How's that?"

She gave him a look, her eyes narrowing as she tried to reason with him, perhaps for her own survival. "The police are actively searching that house. There's too much evidence."

He shrugged, seemingly unbothered. "It's not like they can go through anything. The search warrant doesn't include personal effects."

"It doesn't matter," she replied, keeping her gaze steady on him. "You have the entire basement riddled with evidence." Her words were firm, punctuated with a flicker of disgust. Did he really think he'd gotten away clean?

Asahi rolled his eyes, dismissing her concern. "I trust Souta and Yuuto are handling it."

"Yuuto's hand is going to cause alarm, too," she pressed. "There's no way that's not suspicious."

A faint irritation creased his brow, and he met her gaze with his piercing teal eyes, half in amusement and half in impatience. "Why are you so worried about them?" he scoffed.

"That's not the point I'm trying to make," she replied, shaking her head. "I'm saying-"

"I don't get you, (Y/n). I really don't." His voice sharpened, his jaw tightening as he spoke. There was a flash of something raw in his expression, a mixture of frustration and perhaps something else that bordered on possessiveness. "I went through a lot of trouble to get you here, and you're talking about them." He looked almost hurt, as if her words had cut somewhere deeper than she intended.

For a moment, she was genuinely thrown. Here she was, feeling like a trapped animal, forced into icy silence, while he seemed... upset? She couldn't help the furrow in her brow, confusion twisting in her mind. She should be the one angry, not him. But she caught a glimpse of the phone in his back pocket, and her focus sharpened. That was her way out if she could get to it. She needed to play this carefully, gain his trust just long enough to grab it.

"...I'm sorry. You're right." She softened her voice, infusing it with as much remorse as she could muster. It tasted bitter, but if it worked, she'd do it. She watched his reaction closely, seeing his brows raise in cautious surprise.

Asahi turned his full attention to her, his intense gaze sweeping over her with a hint of suspicion. "Oh?" His voice had softened too, a question laced with a lingering doubt. She could tell he wasn't entirely convinced, but he was listening.

"It's just..." she continued, her voice dropping to a whisper, letting vulnerability edge into her tone. "Every time I think of the others, I'm reminded of the pain they brought me." Her heart tightened painfully at the words, knowing they were partly true.

She almost stumbled over her words, pushing the thought away before her face betrayed her real feelings. "I... I wish that it was just... I don't know... us?" Her voice cracked at the end, and she let her gaze fall, allowing just enough emotion to shine through that she knew he'd see it as honest.
