(Y/n) laid comfortably in bed, her face half-buried in her pillow as soft morning light filtered in through the curtains. Suspension. She sighed to herself. Honestly, it wasn't the worst thing. At least she didn't have to deal with school for the week. Her mom, thankfully, wasn't too mad about it either. She seemed more annoyed at the principal's decision than at (Y/n) herself. But still, the thought of the suspension getting processed into her permanent record gnawed at her, a tiny, persistent anxiety at the back of her mind.
With a low groan, she rolled over, her limbs heavy with sleep. She reached instinctively for her phone only to be reminded, too late, that it wasn't there. Her hand curled into the empty space beside her, fingers flexing as if to summon the missing device by sheer will.
"Damn it..." she muttered under her breath, rubbing her eyes as she sat up and glanced at the clock. 12:03 PM.
Her lips curled into a satisfied smile. Sleeping in. That was one thing suspension had going for it. She could get used to this, honestly. With a yawn, she swung her legs over the side of the bed, the cool air hitting her bare feet as she stretched her arms above her head, back arching with a satisfying crack.
The house was eerily quiet. Too quiet. Her parents were definitely at work by now, leaving her alone for the day. The thought stirred a strange mix of freedom and boredom. She could do whatever she wanted, but she didn't know what exactly that was yet.
Her stomach rumbled at the thought, and she stood, shuffling toward her closet to grab something halfway decent to wear. A lazy day called for oversized sweatshirts and fuzzy socks- comfort over style, without a doubt.
Bored out of her mind, (Y/n) wandered out of her room and down the quiet hall, her socked feet brushing softly against the wooden floor. The house was too still, with nothing but the occasional hum of the refrigerator and the distant ticking of the wall clock to keep her company. As she reached the kitchen, Yuuto's words echoed in her mind, "You look like you've lost weight."
Her frown deepened at the thought. She wasn't starving herself, was she? She'd just... lost her appetite lately, that's all. It wasn't intentional.
Shaking off the nagging feeling, she pulled open the pantry, rummaging through its contents until she found her favorite cereal. The familiar box brought a bit of comfort. With mechanical efficiency, she grabbed a bowl from the cabinet, a spoon from the drawer, and some milk from the humming fridge. Her arms felt heavy, and her thoughts sluggish, but she figured some food would help shake off the weird fog that clung to her since waking up.
She carried her breakfast into the living room, plopping down on the couch with a soft thud. The TV remote rested on the coffee table, waiting for her. After setting the cereal bowl down on the cushion beside her, she flicked on the TV, the screen coming to life with the low chatter of the news.
Spoon in hand, (Y/n) absentmindedly scooped a bite of cereal into her mouth. The news anchor was droning on, his deep, even voice filling the room. Something about local events, road closures- nothing worth her attention. She sighed and reached for the remote to change the channel.
Just as her thumb hovered over the button, something on the screen caught her eye. The camera shifted to a scene outside her school. The bright yellow caution tape fluttered in the wind, stark against the gray autumn sky.
Her breath hitched. She sat up straighter, her cereal forgotten. The anchorman stood in front of the familiar building, speaking with urgency into the microphone. A line of police cars blinked red and blue behind him, their lights casting an eerie glow over the gathering crowd.
(Y/n) leaned forward, the spoon slipping from her fingers and clattering into the half-eaten bowl. Her heart drummed against her ribcage as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing. What the hell was going on?
