Universe 38

Over a week later, in the other universe, Maddie was sitting at the counter of the alien bar.
- "You're okay, sis?" Mon-El asked.
- "Yeah. It's just that in a few days, it will make a year since I left them." The Matthews girl sighed.
- "I know." The Matthews man nodded, sadly.
Kara walked in and looked at the siblings.
- "Oooh. I'm gonna go over there." The quadbrid pointed her telepaths friends and walked away.
- "Club soda on the rocks." The Daxamite gave the drink to his crush.
- "Thank you." The Danvers woman said. "Uh, hey, Mon-El?"
- "Yeah." Mon-El looked at her.
- "So, I know things have been a little weird since that conversation we had the other night." The Kryptonian started.
- "Right." The Matthews man nodded. "You know, I've been talking to some of the regulars and apparently Earth males are only supposed to express their feelings about sports and, occasionally, monster trucks. So..."
- "No, it was great that you were honest." Kara replied. "That's actually a trait women like in men. But here's the thing, um, you were right. I'm not so sure we're a good match."
- "Yeah. Yeah, no." The Daxamite said. "I'm just glad we're on the same page, you know."
- "Yeah." The Danvers woman nodded. "I mean, I have my career in journalism that I just started out on. In the meantime, when I'm not being Supergirl, I really need to focus on that. And even if I did have time to date someone, I wouldn't date someone like..." Mon-El looked at her. "Someone who... Who... Who is..."
- "An intergalactic bartender?" The Matthews man asked.
- "Yes!" The Kryptonian exclaimed.
- "Yes." The Daxamite repeated.
- "No." Kara frowned. "No. It's because it's not your job. It's... It's the way you are." She closed her eyes, in despair.
Mon-El looked at her, hurt.
- "I'm going to go over there now." He pointed to the other side of the room.
- "Okay." The Danvers woman sighed.
The Matthews man walked away.
- "So?" Maddie asked as she walked away from the Krillins.
- "She said that she wouldn't date someone who is the way I am." The Daxamite sighed.
- "Ouch." The Matthews girl frowned. "I'm sorry, Mon-El."
- "It's okay." Mon-El nodded.
- "It's okay to be sad and disappointed." The quadbrid said.
- "I am. So much." The Matthews man replied. "I never cared about feelings before. For me, with women it was always only physical, but with Kara, it's... Different. I just wanna be near her."
- "You're in love." Maddie smiled sadly.
- "I am." The Daxamite sighed. "And it hurts."
- "I know." The Matthews girl put her hand on top of his.
