(Daniel's POV)
"What do you mean you couldn't find anything? Weren't the teachers talking about it a few days ago?"
Jace sighed and leaned forward on the park bench. I didn't mean to sound so naggy but this was starting to frustrate me. We were so sure we had another lead to follow only to have it taken from us too. What type of people are we going up against that they make something like this easily disappear?
"Someone knew that we would go digging so they erased everything of this Eun girl from the school system. I couldn't even find any hard files on her private information."
What?
"So does that really mean we have nothing to go on?"
He glanced at me, "There is something that we can do. Logan is also missing, let us not forget that. And it's been several weeks yet no one seems to be looking for him."
Logan Lee, why would anyone want to look for him? Just thinking about him puts me in a bad mood. Though I understood where Jace was coming from. If we were to look at both disappearances. Eun's and his, they're too close together to seem just coincidence. Especially since they had some sort of interaction with Ila before they were wiped off from the end of the Earth.
"Are you suggesting that we look for him?"
"We don't have to find him. He might've disappeared for another reason. But I'm thinking that we should try to find out if there's any connection at all."
"And do we know where he lives?"
Jace nodded, "I asked around in the Comic Department. Jay-gal Gong, he's that kid that always followed Logan around. He's trying to look for Logan too. Something about-never mind I would rather not repeat it. But I managed to get him to spill the beans on where Logan lived. His mother still lives there."
Finally, something that we could go on.
"When do you want to go? We can go right now."
Huh? What's with that face? He looked almost tired. I know I shouldn't have pushed him too hard. He's been trying to find answers for and taking care of the Burn Knuckles as well. Taking care of that group is enough to send a normal man into a spiral of constant exhaustion. Basically like fathering large babies with muscles.
"Jace...I'm sorry. I shouldn't be pushing you like this."
He looked down at his hands and slowly rubbed them together, "Don't worry. It's not you. To be honest, I don't really want to be doing any of this. Can I be honest with you for a moment Daniel?"
"Of course, we're friends."
There was a moment of silence before he continued, "No one ever asked me if I wanted to find out what happened to her. When you came to me with that computer I wasn't doing it because I cared. I did it for Vasco because he cares. He cares too much honestly."
I looked at him a bit shocked. How could he say something like that? Wasn't Ila a part of Burn Knuckles? Not only that but she was friends with some of these guys and important to Vasco. Even if she did reject him. I know she was a difficult person but she wasn't bad.
"Don't think that I'm a bad person Daniel. There are just some things that the rest of you don't know. She didn't reject Vasco when he asked her out." He closed his eyes as if it was an uncomfortable memory, "But...I hope the heavens don't strike me down for this- but the thing is I still hate her for what she did. I never stopped hating her.
And maybe hate is a strong word so I'll use angry. I never stopped being angry with her. Even when she was still alive I tolerated her because Vasco really wanted her around. She also seemed to regret it a lot so I thought with time I would feel better. Then she died and I felt ten times worse. Partially for being angry with someone who was suffering with their own battles."
