CHERRY: THE LIFE OF A FIGHTER

-

What the hell was happening right now? This girl, she shouldn't be able to fight like this. Her movements and confidence are that of an experienced fighter. She wasn't attacking me blindly but taking her time to figure me out. And that fighting style...is similar to mine.

But that was impossible. Women's MMA hadn't kicked off in this era yet. Even if she was familiar with underground fighting, her movements were too modern. So why did I feel like I was in the ring again?

She kept her arms tight to her body, while her feet scuttled against the floor. Her punches were light and fast, with no intention of landing a clean blow but hard enough to push me against a corner where she could grab me. If I hadn't recognized the intimidating patterns after a lifetime of fighting, it would've been over for me.

As soon as I saw her trying to push me against the wall with a few quick strikes of her left hand I got on the offensive. Once she got a clean grab on me there was no knowing whether I'd be able to get out. Not with this weak body of mine and her strong stature.

Her confidence gave way to a straight line of weakness. It's something I've seen with teens at skateparks. They see young prey and think to themselves, this is going to be easy. When the street fight starts and those youngsters come forward with no fear, the teens are taken off guard. And a second is all it takes.

I lowered my body and tipped my head to the left, right underneath her outstretched arms. From underneath I hit her with a quick strike to the jaw, leaving her phased and pulling back. After that first hit I readjusted my stance then hit her with two more strikes along the face then a hard kick against the stomach.

The girl faltered backward. Her body hitting the edge of the cafeteria table then smacking against the cold surface. I stood there surprised. I-I didn't mean for that to happen.

What I meant was, I didn't think I'd be able to do it at an instant. Up until now I've been using petty fighting techniques but as soon as I recognized the skill my bodies' instincts activated on their own. Before I knew it, I had already pictured what to do and my body was following the exact motions. Was it supposed to come so easily to me after so long?

"Ha...you're familiar?"

Blood dripped from her lip. A spot where her teeth had gotten caught in her own flesh. I looked away from the large gash as she got up again, clutching her side. With a frown she rolled back her shoulders then squared up once again. I took a step back.

My anger was gone, replaced with fear of what I was experiencing. She seemed surprised as I recognized her movements. More so that I was able to counter them. I pulled up my arms defensively.

"What?"

I tried to act stupid.

She grit her teeth, "You're familiar which means you've also been saved by God. No...not God. If you were then he'd know. The Devil must've given you life and for that, you must die."

God? The Devil? What the hell was she talking about? And why did her demeanor suddenly change from confident to determined?

"Everyone get back! What happened?!"

The nurse came rushing in with the Principal right behind her. Several administrative and teacher staff pushed the students away from the scene as they checked on Hikaru. One of the teachers was reassuring everyone, saying an ambulance was already on its way.

I immediately took a wide step back and lowered my arms, "I don't know what you're talking about but we don't want to do this here. Not with so many people..."
