What would happen when you place two hungry lions in a den? It doesn't matter if they are father or son. Wild animals will feast when their bodies scream for satisfaction. A feeling that humanity pretends to hide by not murdering. Though hunger takes on the forms of many things. And through this hunger, it is where most of us show our weaknesses.
Become smart enough and you learn to hide the hunger. Therefore hiding our weaknesses.
Become a genius and you learn to identify the hunger of others. What is that they truly seek? What is that they believe in and follow to the bottom of their hearts? Because most of our hunger aligns with our beliefs. It sounds a bit complicated to say that but that's why it takes a genius to identify them.
And right now there are two geniuses playing with a group of people. That Friday afternoon on the train wasn't just a simple fight between two major crews and the middle child who was roped in. It was a test done by both groups.
Jong-su, as wicked as the man may be, is an intelligent creature who has learned the ways of man. By what means he's learned to read people so carefully is beyond all of us. What we know for sure was that he didn't throw the students of J High School under the bus for the sake of creating a fun commotion. No, there was something he was looking for.
As true as what Haruki and Richard said was, there was something else he was looking for. Sure, putting Hostel in their place and "recruiting" Johan were both pieces of a larger puzzle he was trying to complete, he had two other theories he wanted to test out.
The first theory was the theory of the wild card he recently got under his sleeve. As we all know the origins of Ila are still a bit of a mystery. Of course Jong-su knows more about his past than anyone else does. Well except for the Doc who was the one who revealed the truth of her being to the man. But even though everything added up, Jong-su had trouble believing what the Doc told him and therefore came the Theory of Human Evolution.
This theory in its basics covered how much control we have over our vices. Or, as he likes to put it, over our second and "true" personalities. And when all of our reservations are thrown out the window what are we left with? His answer after the fight on the train was this - 'A person is left with the raw, uncut, primal version of themselves. A form that cannot be cultured in a lab or created to be strong. Strength, as it is, can be developed, but the way we develop and act out on our strengths comes to mind entirely. Making Ila both a dangerous but easily mendable person. You see, she is a wild flesh eating beast who craves the ripping of raw meat but there is a fragile side to her hunger that was built on the idea of weakness. Or rather to show the lack of thereof. Leaving her a craving beast with no solid base of self-preservation...respect...or love. Ila is weak because she does not value or love herself.'
The second theory is one that will take longer to prove though it was set in motion. Through the chaos Jong-su knew that no one at J High School would recognize Ila. To be honest, Jong-su thought having her wear such a ridiculous wig wasn't needed. A change in hair style would've been enough. He knew that the confusion of it all wouldn't allow their minds to make the connection between the two people. Especially not since Ila was doing something that went so opposed to what they thought were her "values".
He didn't need to prove this part because Jong-su already knew this would happen. His second theory was the Theory of Tolerance.
We all have moral obligations that we uphold. A clear list of what cannot be done and what their punishments equal to. Like stealing a candy bar might call for scolding a child. In comparison to murder which can range from lifetime in prison to maybe death itself depending on the person. But Jong-su is aware that our moral obligations aren't as clean as we want them to be.
