With Joshua's burned body taken care of, Kai wasted no time in claiming his position as the new leader of the Gemini Coven.
He moved with careful purpose, but his attitude was nothing like his father's harsh and cruel rule.
Estrella stayed close beside him, quietly observing the coven members. Many watched Kai with mixed emotions—fear, respect, and doubt.
Kai understood their hesitation. He knew it would take time to earn their trust, and even longer to win their forgiveness.
Still, he was determined. He wanted to fix the damage that had been done and lead with a different vision—one built on change and responsibility.
His first action as leader was bold. He announced major reforms, starting with a proposal to completely end the traditional Merge Ceremony.
The council, already uneasy, reacted strongly. Arguments broke out, and tension rose as they faced the possibility of letting go of something the coven had followed for generations.
"This is out of the question!" one elder snapped, his voice laced with outrage. "The Merge has been our way for generations. It is the only way we ensure a leader after you. Your children will be next in line!"
Kai remained composed, his gaze sweeping over the room filled with tense council members. "I understand your concerns," he said calmly. "But I made a promise-one I intend to keep. The time has come for us to change. Our new motto is simple: 'Family comes before the coven.'"
The room stirred with murmurs of disbelief, but in the corner, Anthony and Estrella exchanged a glance, smiles tugging at their lips.
"He's not suggesting we abolish leadership altogether," Veronica, interjected, her voice firm yet measured. "But it is time we end this barbaric ritual. The Merge has caused too much pain. We can, and must, find another way."
"How do we do that?" another witch demanded, her eyes narrowing as she fixed a sharp glare on Kai.
Kai smirked, his confidence radiating as he addressed the room. "I've been studying ancient texts and forgotten rituals," he began. "They speak of sharing power, not consuming it. Imagine this: instead of one twin absorbing the other, both retain their essence, their strength, and their leadership."
The room fell silent as Kai's words hung in the air, the weight of his vision slowly sinking in.
"My children-Josie and Lizzie included-could each hold a portion of the leadership magic," Kai continued. "Together, they would be stronger than anyone. No more battles over who is worthy. No more questioning each other's abilities. And most importantly-no more pain."
Shawn, always one to analyze the deeper implications, leaned forward, his brow furrowed in thought. "So, instead of merging and forcing one twin to absorb the other's power," he said slowly, "we could split the leadership powers between them, creating a balance rather than a competition."
Kai nodded, pleased with his understanding. "Exactly. They'd complement each other, each with their own strengths, but neither forced to destroy the other for the sake of tradition. The coven would benefit from their combined power."
A buzz rippled through the room as murmurs of understanding spread. Some witches nodded in agreement, while others still looked hesitant, bound by the weight of centuries-old traditions.
"This is about more than just preserving tradition," Anthony chimed in, his voice carrying a tone of sincerity. "It's about family. 'Family comes before coven,' right? This new path could embrace a better future for us all."
The younger witches, always more open to change, began to clap, their approval echoing through the room as Kai, satisfied but knowing the battle was far from over, stepped outside.
