After waking up the next afternoon still feeling drained, Estrella freshened up and headed downstairs.
To her surprise, she found Kai in the kitchen, preparing lunch.
Seeing him now, not as the confident man who always knew what he wanted, but as a scared and lonely man unsure of everything, stirred something deep within Estrella.
The vulnerability he had shown, the pain he had endured, made her see him in a new light.
Without hesitation, she approached him, her heart aching for the boy who had been so hurt, and the man who had learned to hide it all behind a mask of confidence.
Gently, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly, hoping that, for just a moment, he could feel the comfort and understanding he had been denied for so long.
For a moment, he stood there, frozen, unsure of how to react. No one had ever hugged him like this.
The warmth and sincerity in her embrace were foreign to Kai, a stark contrast to the coldness and rejection he had known all his life.
He hesitated, then slowly wrapped his arms around her in return, feeling a strange confusion.
"Do not pity me, pumpkin," Kai said with a slight smile, trying to mask his vulnerability.
"It's sympathy, there's a difference," Estrella replied, looking up at him with understanding and compassion in her eyes.
As they sat down to eat, she suddenly dropped her spoon, her memory sparked by something.
Kai looked puzzled by her sudden action, especially as her blue hair caught his attention.
Her hair was changing colour—dark blue to blue again—as she dashed towards her room, muttering anxiously, "Please don't be a dream."
"Pumpkin?" he called after her, following quickly.
Estrella frantically searched through her belongings, her heart pounding with anticipation.
Kai watched in bewilderment as she pulled out a small box.
"What's got you running like that? And what's that?" he asked.
"Yesterday, I was going to come to you and tell you about this dream I had," Estrella explained breathlessly.
"I met Damon and Stefan, but it wasn't a dream. It was Bonnie who linked my mind to hers. Anyway, they gave me this—it's Bonnie's blood, Kai." Her face lit up with the biggest smile.
Kai's confusion melted into surprise and then shock. "Please, don't joke," he said, his voice filled with disbelief.
Estrella shook her head with a grin. "We are going home, Kai."
He whispered, "We are going home," and then pulled her into a tight embrace, spinning her around as they both laughed.
Kai placed her back on the ground, and she looked up at him slightly out of breath, not fully understanding what had come over her.
Without a word, she gently set the box down on the table and immediately pulled him close.
Their lips met in a passionate kiss, her urgency mirrored by Kai's growing intensity.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, drawing her even closer as their kiss deepened.
Their tongues intertwined in a heated dance, the reality fading as they lost themselves in each other.
