Joshua and the other Gemini witches had discovered that Kai was back.
Joshua, ever scheming, blackmailed them, falsely accusing Estrella of being the one to bring him back.
He managed to sway Jo and Olivia, promising that the Gemini Coven could protect them.
But his true intentions were far darker. Joshua didn't want the twins for their abilities-he feared their magic might destroy the coven.
So, he devised a plan, intending to seize Josie and Lizzie under the guise of protection.
As Damon attempted to keep Kai in line, he reminded him of their bargain, his voice calm but laced with warning.
"How do I know you won't kill me as soon as I do this?" Kai asked, his eyes narrowing as they moved toward the Salvatore mausoleum, where Elena's coffin was hidden.
"You don't," Damon replied coolly. "But if you want out of hell, it's either trust me, or spend eternity running from Cade. And then,"
he added, locking eyes with Kai, "you'll probably never see Estrella again."
Kai's expression darkened at the mention of her name.
A bitter smirk played on his lips as he bent down toward Elena's coffin, running his fingers along the cold surface.
"Man, this thing has some miles on it," he muttered before leaning in close, whispering mockingly, "Hi, sleepyhead. Remember me?"
Damon's patience was running thin. "Clock's ticking, creeper. Just reverse the damn spell."
Kai straightened up, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Uh, it's... it's complicated magic. I need to siphon more power first. 'Cause otherwise, I might, y'know, slip away in the middle of it, and..." He trailed off with a grin. "Well, that'd be messy."
Damon clenched his jaw. "What do you need?"
"You," Kai said without hesitation, moving swiftly toward Damon.
He grabbed Damon's hand, his touch cold and burning at the same time.
Red glow flared from Kai's hand as he began to siphon Damon's energy.
Damon groaned in pain as the intensity of Kai's magic coursed through him, his knees buckling beneath him.
"Magic takes energy," Kai explained, his smirk widening. "If I'm gonna do this right, I need to drain the biggest, baddest battery of all."
As Damon's strength waned, Kai swiftly snatched the dagger from his jacket, holding it with a casual menace.
"Kai, stop!" Damon grunted, his voice strained, but Kai's grip only tightened.
"I've been in hell for a long time, Damon," Kai began, his voice low, his face twisted with a mixture of anger and longing. "Do you know what kept me sane? Her. Estrella."
His eyes blazed with intensity. "It's a wonder how even without her presence, she managed to keep me together."
Kai's gaze grew colder as he leaned closer to Damon. "So here's what's going to happen: you're going to convince Lexi to tell me where Estrella is. Or... well, let's just say it won't end well for anyone."
Damon glared at him, struggling to stay upright. "And why the hell would I help you?"
Kai laughed darkly, standing tall as he toyed with the dagger. "Look, I know I'm not a good person. I own that. But this time... I want to be better. For her. This time, I'm staying."
He paused, his voice lowering to a whisper. "Whether you like it or not."
With one swift motion, Kai placed his hand on Elena's coffin, and with a single whispered word-"Invisique"-he and the coffin vanished.
