Alaric's fists crashed down on Kai, his rage in a storm that showed no signs of subsiding.
His strikes were relentless, driven by the fear and fury of a father who believed his children were in danger.
Nearby, Josette was huddled with her daughters, their wide, terrified eyes clinging to the image of their father in a violent frenzy.
Josette tried to shield them from the sight, but the sounds of the blows echoed in the room, unavoidable.
"Jo..." Kai gasped between the barrage of punches, his voice weak, struggling to push through the pain. "It wasn't me! It was him... I-"
But Alaric was lost to his fury, too blinded by rage to hear the words, to even consider the possibility that Kai might be telling the truth.
Kai, desperate, began to defend himself, swinging back with whatever strength he could muster.
His own knuckles bruised, his face swelling and healing from the blows, but he fought back, trying to make Alaric see reason.
"Alaric!" Kai rasped, blood trickling from his mouth. "Listen to me!"
Joshua, watching with a slight glint, added fuel to the fire. "See, Josette? He's nothing but a nuisance."
"Dad, please.!" Jo begged, her voice raw with emotion.
"Ric, stop. You're scaring the twins!" But Alaric wasn't hearing her, either.
With a sharp inhale, Jo made a decision and hurriedly moved the twins out of the room, leading them to safety.
The guilt in the eyes of the Gemini witches who had entered weighed heavy in the air, but none dared intervene.
And then, with one final burst of rage, Alaric snapped Kai's neck with a sickening crack.
Kai's body fell limp to the ground, lifeless, and the room plunged into a haunting silence.
Caroline, having finally regained her strength, stumbled forward just as the fatal blow was delivered, her heart sinking with the horror of what she'd witnessed.
"Alaric, stop!" she cried out, but it was too late. Her voice was filled with desperation. "It wasn't him! It wasn't Kai!"
As Kai was dragged away, still unconscious from Alaric's attack, Caroline watched in frustration, her mind racing.
She knew something was off-Kai might have been many things, but in that moment, snapping her neck hadn't been one of them.
The guilt gnawed at her as Jo and Alaric, both clearly shaken, comforted their twins.
Josie and Lizzie clung to Jo, asking innocent questions about their Uncle Kai, oblivious to the true chaos that had just unfolded around them.
Jo's expression softened slightly as she listened to her daughters' confusion.
The twins, while young, were already beginning to grasp their unique powers.
But they were also beginning to understand the complicated dynamics within their family.
Earlier, Joshua stormed out of the room, his face twisted with anger as Jo and Alaric dismissed his so-called protection, insisting that they didn't need his help.
His plan to manipulate the twins and gain control over the coven had crumbled before his eyes.
Furious, he vanished into the shadows, leaving a lingering tension behind.
