A few hours prior:
Joshua Parker had employed his leadership magic to conceal the ascendant, unable to destroy it from within the prison world.
His strategy was more devious: through Liv, who channeled the ascendant, he bridged his mind to Kai's, making their connection undeniable.
When Kai first awoke to the sound of Joshua’s voice echoing in his mind, he dismissed it as just another vivid nightmare.
But when he heard it again, louder and sharper, he realized with a start that it was all too real.
Fury boiled inside him, and he lashed out, trying to summon the strength to strike at his father. However, Joshua deflected the attack effortlessly, a smirk curling at his lips.
“Fool," Joshua sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "Did you really believe you had the power to kill me? I'm not here to fight you. I’m here to deliver a message."
Kai’s eyes narrowed, his jaw clenching as he braced himself for whatever twisted words would follow.
“The little witch’s brothers—Damon and Stefan Salvatore—are plotting to save her,” Joshua said slowly, savoring each word as if delivering a crushing blow. "But don’t get too excited, son. They have no intention of rescuing you. Only her.”
Kai’s face twisted with a mix of disbelief and anger, his fists tightening at his sides. “That’s not true," he growled under his breath, refusing to believe it. "Ella wouldn’t do that. She wouldn't leave me here."
Joshua’s chuckle was low, mocking. “Ella, is it? Already on a nickname basis? How easily you’ve been manipulated.” His voice was laced with cruel amusement. "She’s deceiving you, playing the innocent, pretending to care. But in reality, she’s just biding her time until she can leave you here to rot, just like you deserve."
Kai flinched as the accusation sank in, but he refused to let the words take root. “She would never do that,” he said, though his voice wavered slightly, betraying his own doubt.
Joshua's smirk widened, his eyes glinting with triumph. “Isn’t she? She took the ascendant from you. You didn’t even see it coming. She’s a witch boy, with her own magic. And what do you have? How long do you think it will be before she uses that magic against you?"
Kai clenched his teeth, his mind racing with the seed of doubt his father had planted.
He hated how Joshua could always find a way to twist his thoughts, to make him question everything.
Joshua’s words tore through Kai like a knife, each one cutting deeper, igniting a rage that made his entire body tremble.
"I don't blame her," Joshua continued, his voice cold and unrelenting. "Being stuck with you must be unbearable. See, even she will leave you here, Kai. Because the truth is, no one wants you. No one has ever wanted you."
Kai screamed in fury, his voice raw with desperation.
"Stop!" he roared, lashing out with all the magic he could muster, trying once again to silence his father’s cruel words. But Joshua was prepared, his smirk widening as he effortlessly deflected the attack.
With a flick of his wrist, Joshua cast a brutal spell, causing an intense, searing pain to bloom inside Kai's head.
Kai collapsed to the ground, clutching his head as agony ripped through him, his scream now one of sheer torment— An Aneurysm.
"You should kill her, Kai," Joshua’s voice was calm but insidious, sinking deeper into Kai's consciousness. "Kill her before it’s too late. Stop her from escaping. She will leave you behind, just like everyone else. If you can't escape, no one can. You’re going to kill her. Kill her."
