Stand By Me

Arabella rushed into the tomb and a guttural cry left her throat when her eyes landed on the body of her baby brother. She dropped down to her knees and cradled him in her arms, tears streaming down her face as she hysterically cried.

"Jeremy! Oh, No! No! Oh, god, no!" She cried out running her hand through his hair. She let out a sigh of relief when she noticed the Gilbert heirloom still wrapped around his finger.

Stefan and Elena rushed into the tomb and the younger Gilbert twin let out a cry as she dropped down besides her two siblings. "It's fine. It's fine, Elena. He's gonna be okay!" Arabella cried as she pulled Elena to them, hugging her tightly. "The ring will bring him back." She reassured. "It's gonna be okay. He's gonna be okay." She looked down at Jeremy and stroked his mop of hair away from his face. "You're gonna be okay, Jer bear." She cried. Elena looked up at Stefan, tears streaming down her cheeks, knowing that her brother wasn't coming back.

In the lower part of the cave, Stefan had explained to Damon what had happened and they both arrived outside of the chamber. "How'd this happen?" The older Salvatore questioned, desperate to go in there to comfort his grieving wife.

"It was Katherine." Stefan told him. "She must've been following us this entire time."

"What about the cure?" Damon questioned before his eyes grew wide. "Or Silas?"

"If there was anything at all, it's gone." Stefan replied.

Damon looked agitated as he thought about his poor wife. The death of his brother-in-law was also weighing heavy on his heart. He would never admit it, but he did have a soft spot for the young Gilbert boy. "Where's BonBon?" He questioned.

"I have no idea." Stefan shrugged his shoulders. "She went looking for Jeremy last night and she never came back."

Elena walked towards the two brothers with a tear-stained face. "Elle is in there waiting for the damn Gilbert ring to bring our brother back. But he's not coming back." Her brown eyes bounced between both brothers. "Is he?"

"What?" Damon questioned in a daze.

"Damon." Stefan snapped getting the attention of his brother. "Jeremy was one of the five, a hunter." He said.

Damon looked into the chamber. He could hear his wife talking to Jeremy. His eyes suddenly grew wide. Finally understanding what the issue was. "He's supernatural. The ring won't work on him anymore." He paused and looked across at Elena who was silently crying. "Arabella won't survive this." He said and Elena nodded in agreement. "I need you to get her off this island. I'll go back and find Bonnie."

Back at the Gilbert residence. Caroline was frantically scrubbing the hard wood floor when the front door swung open and Arabella walked inside, her face pale and grieving as she carried her heels in her hand. Stefan followed behind, carrying Jeremy's lifeless body.

"Hey, you're home. I was just trying to clean the burn mark where Kol--" She noticed the younger Salvatore carrying the lifeless body of Jeremy Gilbert and she let out a gasp. "I- uh- couldn't get it out." Stefan shook his head at the blonde vampire as Arabella gestured towards the stairs.

"Come on, let's take him up to his room."

Stefan nodded as he followed the brunette up the stairs, Elena went into the kitchen, passing Caroline who stood immobilised, in shock. Upstairs Stefan laid Jeremy on his bed and Arabella sat herself down beside him, squeezing his hand tightly in hers as she continued to mumble nonsense under her breathe.

"Can I get you anything?" Stefan questioned apprehensively, his heart breaking at the devastated look on Arabella's face. He could still hear the pained cries that echoed throughout thr chamber when she found his body.
