Kaya's Story (An InuYasha Fanfic)

Chapter 15: Betrayal

It has been a few months since I came to Lady Kikyo's Village. She and her younger sister, Kaede, have been very kind and helpful. All four of us have become a family of sorts. We take care of one another; especially since Kaede got hurt. Lady Kikyo has had nothing but guilt on her face since that night, because of this I try to help her more than ever. She allows me to pick herbs with her and has taught me many things about healing. I just wish it had been under better circumstances. She stays by Kaede's side as much as she can, but during times where she has to leave, I stay with Kaede. Tonight, was one of those nights. Her and InuYasha had gone somewhere, so I was with Kaede until she returned. Just before sunset, she returned with a proposition. "Me, become human with InuYasha?" I inquired. "Yes, if we can use it to turn you both human it could purify it and possibly even make it cease to exist." She explained. "Of course." I said without hesitation. All of us could be together normally, like a 'real' family. I couldn't wait until tomorrow, when I'd finally belong.

Later that evening, when Lady Kikyo returned from the shrine, our plans changed slightly. InuYasha being as impatient as ever, but I could understand how he was feeling. It was a scary thought and the more I thought about it the more nervous I got. That is until the sun started to rise and Lady Kikyo awoke. Kaede did too, but only long enough for Lady Kikyo to give her the excuse of going to get herbs. We left the hut and headed to where we were going to meet InuYasha. I couldn't believe it, we were actually going to become humans. As we waited, I heard the sound of someone running; which I assumed was InuYasha. Unfortunately, I was correct. At first, all I saw was the blood as it splashed on my face and that's when I finally noticed her wound. My head was spinning, and I froze. Why had he done this? What possible reason would he have for changing his mind now? After all this time, he tricked us so he could get the Sacred Jewel? It just didn't make sense. I saw InuYasha start to walk away and all of my anger came forward. "InuYasha!" I yelled. He stopped walking and turned to me with a wicked smile. He showed no remorse in his eyes. I ran towards him at full speed, claws ready. He hit me so hard, I went flying into a nearby tree. He continued walking as I felt darkness consumed me.
