By the time I reached the temple, it was a smoldering heap. InuYasha and the others were nowhere to be found, which meant they were alive, at least. Renkotsu was gone, so at least I didn't have to worry about him for now. It took me a moment to catch their scents among the scents of smoke and death, but after I caught InuYasha's scent I took off in that direction. After a while, I found the group in a clearing in the forest. It was bordering a small pond with a waterfall. The area would've have been pretty if I wasn't worried about the three humans who lay unconscious in front of me. Shippo was sniffling and hadn't noticed I was there, Kirara, on the other hand, was on alert upon seeing me. She was sitting next to Sango's head, looking worried as well. I sat down next to the small two-tail and patted her head. I looked around realizing I hadn't seen InuYasha and became worried. It was weird for him to just leave, like this. I stood up and decided to go look for him.
It was early morning when I caught up to InuYasha and I thought he was talking to himself but he kept saying Sesshomaru. After a few moments, a wind scar came past my hiding place, narrowly missing me. I was going to return to the others, but something stopped me and I decided to approach InuYasha. "InuYasha," I stated before walking out of my hiding spot. "What is it?" he sounded distracted, which made sense. "I came to check on you because I know this is hard on you," I told him. He didn't say anything and he didn't need too. We both knew what was going on in his head. He blamed himself for what had happened to Kagome and the others. They were his friends and he couldn't protect them as well as he believed he could. "We should head back," I blurted out. InuYasha nodded and walked past me, heading back the way I had come.
When we reached the clearing, I noticed Myoga was much larger than normal. InuYasha walked over and lifted Kagome to his chest, I guess friend wasn't exactly the right word to describe her. I sat down next to Miroku and watched what Myoga was doing. About the time I figured out what was going on, Kagome spoke. A moment later, Miroku groaned and started mumbling while rubbing Myoga's head lovingly. I looked down, smiling slightly as I felt tears start to form but wiped them away before anyone could see. They were alive and I was happy to see them that way. About the time I looked up, InuYasha put Kagome down and quickly turned around, facing away from the group. Kagome said his name and Shippo ran over in front of him. He mentioned that InuYasha was crying, causing Myoga to join Shippo, who had jumped on InuYasha's shoulder by this time. InuYasha swatted the two small demons away and turned around yelling. That's when I saw what they were talking about; tears had gathered in his eyes and he was fighting to keep them from falling. This was the first time I had seen him shed tears. He had changed so much just in the short amount of time he had spent with Kagome and his friends, plus I was happy to see him trust someone again.
Not long after the group had woken up, we decided to move locations. We all thought it would be best, so we weren't so out in the open. The group stopped after a short walk, then Myoga sent Shippo after some ingredients for a potion of his. Another reason I hate having good hearing, some things you never want to hear. I had sat down next to the rocks where Miroku, Sango, and Kagome were sitting. Watching the water was the only thing that seemed to help me focus and get my thoughts in order. I heard Kagome apologize to InuYasha for losing the Sacred Jewel and it pissed me off, that is until he told her it was okay. He really did care deeply for Kagome. InuYasha handed the three humans bottles of Myoga's special potion and even from where I sat I could smell the blood in it. The only part that made up for it was that it was going to get them on their feet faster, which I was happy about. A speedy recovery meant they would all be a lot safer. If I left it would increase their odds of staying safe. After several more thoughts, the scent of a wolf demon entered my senses. That meant Koga was approaching at rapid speed. When he arrived, I turned to face InuYasha, only to find Koga standing on him flirting with Kagome, as usual. InuYasha jumped up and slashed at Koga with his claws and then proceeded to argue with the wolf demon. When Koga started lecturing him about Kagome, I jumped up and went to stand next InuYasha along with Myoga and Shippo. InuYasha just took it and even promised Kagome would never get hurt like that again. I'm not sure who was more surprised, me or Koga. I guess Koga took that as a cue to leave because, with a few parting words of love towards Kagome, he took off.
