When I got to the hut, I went inside and found the others sitting inside waiting for us to return. "Sango are you alright?" was the first thing I said. "I'm alright now. Shippo and Kirara are doing much better, too," Sango told me. "I'm glad." "Kaya, where are InuYasha and Kagome? I thought they would be with you," Miroku questioned. "They looked like they needed some time alone." I don't know why, but my face felt really warm all of a sudden. They didn't ask me anymore questions, much to my relief. I laid down behind them and began playing with my necklace as a distraction. The next thing I knew Kagome and InuYasha had returned and the sun was shining brightly. I had fallen asleep for the first time in at least a week. My mind was at peace, for once. Shortly after I woke up, we left the village. I was still thinking about what that flower demon had said because I wished it wasn't true. I had seen so many people die or get hurt, sometimes directly because of me. Other things had happened because I had helped Naraku and death and destruction followed. All of these occurrences ending in death or severe injury, so I blamed myself for what had happened every time; even the ones I couldn't have stopped, like my parents' deaths or Lady Kikyo's first death. My thoughts were abruptly stopped when I ran into InuYasha who had stopped because a villager of the village we were passing by had stopped our group. The man explained that there had been a strange light coming from the mountains the night before. We looked over and noticed the light shined brightly even in the bright sunshine. The villagers said it looked to be coming from the nearby lake, just before explaining that this was all the information they had because no one dared to go near it. InuYasha accepted the task of helping the villagers, which surprised Shippo but not me. InuYasha wanted to keep working to keep his mind from wandering into painful thoughts, so he figured this would be the best way to do it. As we got closer, I caught the faint scent of Naraku which meant he was involved somehow. Meaning this was more than likely a trap for us. When we reached the lake, we noticed it had changed from water into a mirror with Kanna's mirror in the center. Yup, this was definitely a trap.
As if on cue of the mirror being recognized, it transformed into a large mirror demon with Kanna standing at its side. InuYasha drew Tetsusaiga and went to charge but was stopped by a blinding light. We covered our eyes until the light stopped, but when we uncovered our eyes the mirror demon began forming something in its hand. Within seconds, the demon had a much larger version of Tetsusaiga in its hand causing Miroku to warn InuYasha of the demon's potential wield of the fake Tetsusaiga. InuYasha called it trick of the mirror before trying to use the wind scar, but nothing happened. This prompted Kanna to have the mirror demon use the wind scar against us, which I blocked with Tenkari's spiritual winds. As a precaution, the others took to the sky and InuYasha tried to use his adamant barrage, but it wouldn't work either. Instead the mirror demon used it against us, so this time Shippo used a fox magic acorn trick with exploding smoke acorns. This was the perfect cover for us to escape. We ran to a cave far away from the mirror lake to come up with a plan on how to deal with essentially a second Tetsusaiga and the mirror demon.
When we were safely in the cave, Miroku set up a barrier to keep us protected for the time being. Everyone was freaked out that the mirror demon had not only been able to copy Tetsusaiga, but it was also able to steal the different forms and techniques. Everyone was making very good points about what was going on. Not only was Tetsusaiga rendered useless at the moment, but its techniques were in the hands of the enemy; something that should not have been possible. "I'll use Tenkari in Tetsusaiga's stead," I blurted it out without thinking. "Won't the demon just copy your sword too?" Shippo questioned. I shook my head, "Tenkari, unlike Tetsusaiga, can use spiritual power as a weapon by itself or mixed with other techniques. In other words, demons and regular half-demons can't wield it at full strength. Tetsusaiga on the other hand is primarily based on demonic energy." "You can't fight that thing," InuYasha protested. "I can and I will. Besides, you don't have a better plan," I argued. "You don't have to fight it alone. We'll help you defeat it so we can get back Tetsusaiga's demonic energy," Kagome exclaimed. "Hold your horses, fighting against that thing seems a bit dangerous," Shippo argued. Miroku chimed in, "Indeed, it means we would also be fighting against Tetsusaiga." Shippo was terrified, "That would be suicide!" "Relax Shippo, don't be afraid. Oh, I get it, you're probably just realizing what a deadly opponent I am," InuYasha added, proudly. Shippo jumped in InuYasha's direction, "I never thought you were a deadly opponent, idiot, it's the sword that scares me not you!" I rolled my eyes, "not the time boys." The cave began to rumble, signifying the demon was here. "Whatever it is we're planning to do, we better do it soon," Sango stated, urgently. I turned to look through the barrier and saw the mirror demon only a few feet away along with a large swarm of saimyosho. The demon lifted Tetsusaiga causing the sword to turn blood red just before the demon broke down the barrier. Sango and Kagome were the first to attack but nothing had any effect on the demon. A second later, Tetsusaiga's blade gained the pattern of adamant spears. It was going to use adamant barrage, again, at the same time Tenkari began to pulse in my hand. The demon used the technique, but InuYasha charged and the spears avoided everyone. A problem did develop, though, InuYasha turned full demon. I caught the scent of his demonic blood even before the others noticed, Tetsusaiga had protected him and us. The sword wasn't useless, it was trying to take back its power. Everyone started to panic when they realized he was a demon, but I knew what was going on. Tetsusaiga was trying to partially restore itself using InuYasha's demonic blood and that's how we were going to win.
InuYasha struck the demon in the arm but the wound immediately healed. Then the demon summoned the dragon scale Tetsusaiga because it was going to kill InuYasha by cutting through his demon vortex. We offered to help InuYasha, but he threatened to cut us down along with the demon. His demonic half wasn't in full control, but it was in enough control that he was really capable of anything right now. This was something he would have to do on his own, unfortunately. At the same time I had that thought, InuYasha cut the demon's face almost in half but the demon healed again and we learned why; Kanna was taking the damage in place of her mirror demon. Kagome and InuYasha both tried to bargain with Kanna to get her to stop this fight, but all she did was have her demon do a special attack. InuYasha was now in the shadow of the mirror but if he tried to run it followed him and hit him again. He tried to attack after he was struck twice, but his advance got deflected by a mirror shield. Kanna attacked again, but this time InuYasha produced a barrier from Tetsusaiga, which was something new for me. The first attack caused the mirror demon's mirror in its stomach to burst because of the energy reflected off of the barrier. The second attack, however, made visible cracks form in Tetsusaiga which was not good. Sango figured out Naraku's plan, he intended to have Kanna and InuYasha kill each other. With InuYasha out of the way, he could easily kill the others because they're human. That was something I couldn't let happen because I wasn't going to lose anyone else. Kagome fired a sacred arrow at the hole in the sky where the attack originated, but Kanna took her warning and closed it before having the mirror demon use a wind scar on InuYasha. InuYasha blocked it but more cracks formed on Tetsusaiga's blade. He decided to end it with one quick attack by slicing through the fake Tetsusaiga to gain back its demonic energy. It didn't work the first time, but it did the second and sent InuYasha flying. When he landed, I felt his scent return to normal and the cracks on his blade disappeared. He stood up and walked to Kanna with Tetsusaiga still drawn, but I knew he wasn't the type of person to kill in cold blood. He even told Kanna to leave because he didn't want the nightmares that would result from killing her. Kagome walked up to her and told her that she was free now, but I knew Naraku wouldn't stand for that. He still had a hold on Kanna's heart and wanted to see her destroy us even if it cost her life. As if on cue, the mirror demon and Kanna began to form large glowing cracks across their bodies. A second later, they exploded spraying glass shards everywhere. InuYasha used Tetsusaiga to protect him and Kagome while I put up a barrier around Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and I. When the shards stopped, I let down the barrier and we joined Kagome and InuYasha at the crater created by the explosion. We found Kanna's mirror in the center of the crater, completely shattered. InuYasha picked it up and Shippo wondered if Kanna was trying to take us with her, but Kagome explained that Kanna never wanted to die but she wanted us to hear her final words. InuYasha placed the mirror back down in a position like you use for a grave marker. This was Kanna's final resting place.
