In hindsight, my response was not the brightest, but I couldn't let demons like them destroy what our father had tried so hard to create and maintain. Momoka stood up and slapped me hard across the face. I laughed, "Naraku hits harder than you do." She pulled her sword from its sheath, but I blocked her attack with Tenkari's sheath. She took a couple more swings and managed to nick my left shoulder. "Mo, that's enough," Takahiro told her. Takahiro called for a girl named Aoi who entered carrying Tenkari in her hands. "I do not understand why a demon sword rejects anyone who is a demon, especially since our father was a powerful demon, himself," Takahiro stated, sadly. "He didn't want someone like you with that kind of power," I told him, pointedly. "What do you mean by that?" Takahiro questioned. "Someone who only wishes to use the sword to gain power. It is used to protect those you care for and you don't care for anything but power," I spat. "Watch your tone," Momoka growled. "Protecting someone is a waste of energy, there is no way that Tenkari's intended for those who wish to protect others. Father would not have wanted that. I bet that old swordsmith tricked him." Takahiro was thinking out loud, but his words still made my blood boil. "Leave Master Totosai out of this, he did as father requested, that is all. Never disrespect him in my presence, again," I threatened. Both demons laughed. "What are you going to do, half-breed? Lecture us?" Momoka asked. "No, I'll do this," I stated. Both demons stopped laughing and watched in horror as I used the sheath to call Tenkari. It transformed the moment I grabbed it from the air and the two demons cowered for a moment. "Now, I will only say this once. Leave now and your lives will be spared."
My bluff had frightened them because they both called for the guards. Seconds later, roughly ten demonic guards entered the 'throne room' with their weapons drawn. Takahiro smirked, "the first demon to bring me the head of this abomination will become ruler of the Southern Region." All of the guards attacked at once, some of the attacks I countered or blocked but some I didn't. I really didn't want to kill anyone, because I was trying to prove a point; not to mention I didn't want to wreck the palace. The guards, however, did not share my sentiment and just attacked with no regard for what might get destroyed. I began walking back toward the doors, hoping to lead the guards outside. When I was inches from the door, I turned and ran outside. As I ran, I could hear the guards yelling after me, but I wasn't going to stop; not yet anyway. When I got to the palace gates, I stopped and turned around waiting for guards to show up. Several minutes passed before they caught up to me. The demonic guards surrounded me in a close semicircle formation, but no one advanced. They knew they had me cornered so they were going to take their sweet time killing me. I looked at the group of demons, so many memories flashed to mind of me in situations like this when I was a child. Back then, I was on my own with only the protection of a bow. Now, 50 years later, I've unlocked two of Tenkari's special techniques and have become a skilled priestess. These demons had no idea whom they were dealing with. Tenkari began to glow a pale pink and I could see the wind swirling around the blade, it was now or never. With a flash of pink light and several surprised screeches, the demonic guards were gone. I walked up the path to the castle, smiling as I did. Now to take care of Takahiro and Momoka, they were going to regret everything they had ever done.
Takahiro and Momoka were celebrating my death when I returned, neither of them had noticed I was there. "Did you miss me?" I asked with a smirk. "How are you still alive? Those demons were the top ten in my army." Takahiro was genuinely surprised, but my favorite reaction was Momoka's. She hadn't said a word since I walked up to them. Her mouth was hanging open in surprise and she looked ready to faint. "I'll say this one more time, leave now and never return or face the consequences," I growled. Momoka laughed, "you really think you, a mere half-demon, could stop us? We are the full demon children of Ichiro, his true heirs. We will say this again: Give us the sword and Father's lands and you can leave with your life." "Not a chance," I stated as I charged the two demons. They jumped to opposite sides of the room and nodded to each other. I turned and ran outside, knowing what they were about to do. They followed me out and immediately turned into their full demon forms. The real battle had begun.
