I ran all the way to the Shrine Gate, stopping long enough to admire it one last time before leaving this era. When I ran up the steps, I caught Kagome's scent but it was starting to fade. She must have left already, which makes things a little easier. I didn't stop running until I reached the Well House. Once I had walked inside and closed the door, I turned back into my half-demon form before jumping into the well. After I landed on solid ground, I jumped straight out of the well and landed in the open field that surrounds it. By the time I returned, it was night and everything was quiet. I had made the decision to go talk with InuYasha and the others about everything that had happened over the past few months. There's no way they didn't already know, but I was still going to tell them the truth. "Kaya, you're back," Kagome stated as she approached. "Yeah. What are you doing out here?" I inquired. "We came to get my bag. I left it when I returned earlier," Kagome replied. "Oh, that makes sense," I stated, before continuing, "Kagome, do you think I could come back to the village with you and InuYasha?" "That's a first, normally you try and avoid us." InuYasha answered. I thought about my reply carefully. "I want to talk to all of you. It's time I told you the truth."
We walked back to the village in silence. When we arrived, we went inside Kaede's hut and everyone looked at me. Any other situation, I would have just brushed it off but not this one. I was about to expose myself willingly and that wasn't going to end well. I sat down in the back corner of the hut and waited for Kagome and InuYasha to take their seats before I started my explanation. "I'm sure you won't believe anything I'm about to say. I haven't been telling you the whole truth about what I've been doing the past few months." "We figured that much. You've had Naraku's scent lingering on you several times when we've met." InuYasha stated, bluntly. "Oh, so this will be easier than I thought," I stated before continuing my explanation. This started with me explaining how I had first met Naraku when I was a child, then I explained our meeting after I returned and how he asked me to observe Kagome and the Jewel. I also explained that the Jewel shards I had been collecting were for him, and how I had lied about having them. Then I got the part about the human arm which pissed InuYasha off even worse. I also had to explain about the Demon Slayers and honestly, I'd rather take my chances with InuYasha. I ended with the trap involving the wolf demon tribe and how that was my final turning point. When I finished, everyone was quite angry, but no one said anything for a moment. "So, you were there for everything?" Kagome asked, calmly. "For the most part, yes. He wouldn't tell me his plans, especially after I learned the truth about who he was. I truly am sorry for lying to all of you and I wish I could take back the pain I've caused you." I stated, looking down. "You can tell us what you know about Naraku," Miroku stated, in a commanding tone. "Not much more than you all. I know he's been hiding out recently and the last time we spoke he told me he was plotting something that involved InuYasha," I told them. "Did he tell you what he was planning?" InuYasha inquired. "No, he said he needed my help with it whatever it was," I stated. No one said anything to me after that, but the room still felt heavy as if it was going to collapse in on me at any moment. After a while, the group decided to get some rest and leave in the morning to search for Naraku and more Sacred Jewel Fragments. Once everyone had fallen asleep, I quietly moved from my spot and headed to the Sacred Tree.
The walk was pleasant; themoon was full, and the night wasn't particularly cold. I don't think I hadactually ever taken the time to admire the forest as I walked through it. Itwas beautiful on its own as well. Once I reached the sacred tree, I took a longlook at it as well. It was the largest tree in the forest, and it had a historymuch longer than any of the other trees around it. I climbed what was left ofthe large roots and vines that led to where InuYasha was once held. The scar inthe tree drawing me near. Once I reached the top of the roots and vines, Itouched the scar in the tree letting the memories flow. So many memories hadhappened right below where I was standing; some good, some bad. "What are youdoing?" InuYasha's voice startled me causing me to fall. "I could ask you thesame thing," I stated while getting up. "I'm not the one who just admitted tohelping Naraku," InuYasha stated coldly. "Whatever, I figured you'd be guardingKagome. So, you don't lose her too." I retorted. We glared at each other forseveral minutes before either of us said anything. "I'm leaving in the morning. It's probably best." I stated. InuYasha's tone softened slightly. "You know, Iremember saying that to you. Just be careful." I smiled and my tone softened aswell, "You too. And take care of Kagome?" "I will."
