Kaya's Story (An InuYasha Fanfic)

Chapter 2: Orphaned

Roughly three months after mothers fight with Mai, I was playing in the courtyard of the palace while Mother tended to Fathers wounds from a recent battle with a fierce demon, a dark cloud began to form above the village. Even as young as I was, I could feel the strong demonic auras resonating from the cloud. I ran inside the palace, running into Mother and Father who were both at the door ready for battle. Before they could venture outside, the hoard of demons descended on the village and my palace home. Villagers screamed in terror and pain. Father ran outside first, instructing Mother and I to run. Instead, Mother sent me to hide as she ran outside to assist Father. I tried to do as instructed, but to no avail. The demons surrounded the palace and caused it to collapse, with me inside. Surprisingly enough, I came out of the collapse without a scratch; it was the demon attacks after that caused me damage. Mother came and scooped me up out of the wreckage with Father trying to protect us both. Father sent us away from the palace to hide in the forest while he finished off the remaining demons. His instructions and "I love you both," were the last words I ever heard from him.

Mother carried me to a thick part of the forest before setting me down under a tree to check my wounds. "M-mother. Demons." I mumbled out. She stood up, drew her bow, and got ready for another attack. I stood up next to her, wanting to help. Even though I knew I couldn't do much because I was so small, I needed to do whatever I could to help. Pretty soon, the demon hoard descended on the forest. Mother purified as many as she could while I used my claws, but it was a losing battle. Mother soon ran out of arrows and was just using a sacred barrier but even that was starting to fail due to her weakened state. Once the barrier fell, Mother and I neither one stood a chance. Mother was killed and I blacked out, but not before feeling intense heat from above.
