Everything is wrong since I last saw you, baby
I really wanna see you and I don't mean maybe
I'm doin' everything try'n' to make you see
That I belong to you, hon, and you belong to me

Christmas eve Mary and me celebrated on our own. She liked the skirt I had bought her and her present was something that had been very welcome too. A bottle of gin, which I really needed to calm my nerves or I would have backed out of this Christmas party thing. I still thought it was a very bad idea, no matter how often Mary told me it would be alright and that it was time that Brian and me made up. I suspected she just wanted me out of the flat again and every excuse would have been good enough for her.

Keith held word and picked me up exactly at five. All I thought about was running off, but Mary had forced me to wear heels and I doubted that I got very far before she would have caught up to me. I emptied my gin before she dragged me out of the house. I guess she was more than happy to be rid of me for a day and maybe for even more if Brian and me got back together. She had spent the whole day, doing my hair and dressing me up. She had gone even that far to cut my hair a bit. My ends needed a trim or something, she was no hairdresser or anything, but it looked probably still better than every time I had tried to.

Keith just laughed, when he saw us approaching and still was, when I got into his car. "You look like you're in severe pain. You know you didn't need to dress up so much, if you're really uncomfortable. I doubt Brian would mind about that much at the moment, but it's good to see you."

"It's good to see you too... "I mumbled.

"You don't need to be nervous, despise that you don't seem at ease, you look really lovely."

"Thank you..."

"You're not very chatty." He sighed. "Don't worry, everything will work out."

I sighed. I really hoped he was right and everything was indeed going to work out, but somehow I felt like we were heading to a very awkward dinner. "I'm sorry..."

"Why? It's not your fault, I'm sure..."

"It's mine... I said something really awful to Brian and I don't think that we just can pretend like nothing happened. I'm going to ruin the evening for everyone. You shouldn't have brought me with you nor should you have to listen to my complaints all the time..."

"And you shouldn't worry so much. I'm sure Brian forgives you."

I furrowed my brows. I of course didn't know Brian as long as Keith did , but he didn't seem like the type to just forget about this without having a huge fight... "Why? How can you be so sure?"

"Because first Brian is always changing his mind anyway and second if he didn't want you to come back, he could have just told us that you two broke up and finish this off, but he didn't. So I just assume that he must really care for you and want you back or why else should he keep this farce up? Only to keep you away from me? That's ridiculous even for him, he's not stupid and knows that wouldn't work forever. I really think he's expecting to get back together with you no matter what you said or did. He likes you too much to stay angry at you for long."

I rolled my eyes. "You're exaggerating."

"Maybe" He took a deep breath. "I don't want to suggest something, but you probably know that Brian is not the most faithful partner, and well on my birthday party, let's just say he had a chance at somebody else and all he did was tell her to fuck off and spend the whole evening drinking and sulking. Either he really was not in the mood or you mean that much to him..."
