Hadley's POV
As I walked up the all too familiar steps to my parent's house, anxiety rushed through my veins. It is the first time that they are meeting my boyfriend, Ben. The two of us have been dating for almost a year now and I'd managed to avoid my parents for quite some time but all good things must come to an end.
I know that my parents will disapprove of Ben because of his tattoos, surely they will pick out his accent and they will find something else to make fun off. They are against everything that isn't stereotypically normal, but Ben assured me that he can take whatever they will dish out. Taking a deep breath and clutching onto Ben's hand tighter, I rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer it. Ben looked up at me and smiled, placing his free hand around my waist. "Everything will be alright, Hadley," Ben whispered softly before placing a kiss on my forehead. A small amount of relief rushed through me but it wasn't enough to calm my nerves. "Hadley, how nice to see you've finally come to visit us," my mother said with that plain old tone as she pulled me in for a hug. I hugged her back and ignored her tone. "Who's this?" my father asked. I removed myself from my mother's hug and stood beside Ben. "This is Ben, my boyfriend," I told them. Ben shook my father's hand, it seemed that he'd taken a liking to him, which was good, but my mother refused Ben's handshake and hug with a disapproving smile on her face. This was exactly what I was afraid of. The four of us walked through the old walls of the house. I looked around, remembering memories that were captured in this house, some of my first memories in fact. I love this house; it was my home for eighteen years. Everyone sat down in the living room and I could see my mother eyeing Ben's recently tattooed arm. The other one had been tattooed a little while ago but the ones that she is looking at are still healing. "So, Ben, what do you do for a living?" my mother asked him. I looked at Ben and saw a calm look on his face. I wish that I could be as calm as he seems to be. "I'm in a band called Asking Alexandria, I play guitar and sing a little," He told them with a smile on his face. "Sounds interesting," my mother grunted, her sarcasm seeping through her words. "It is actually, I get to go around the world making music and doing the things I love. In fact, it's how I met your daughter," Ben smiled. My mother looked at me. "I didn't think that you were that type of girl, Hadley," She spoke. Sighing, I ran my fingertips through my hair and looked down at the ground. "Mom, I don't understand why you can't just be happy for me." I said. "I'm not happy for you because you chose him. I mean look at the man, he has tattoos and he's in a band. That can't be good for you," She spat. "Excuse me, if you will, but I'd never do anything to hurt Hadley. She means the world to me and I'd do anything to see her happy. I'm sorry that you don't approve of our relationship but we're happy and that's all that matters," Ben said he held his hand in mine. My father was smiling, he is happy that Ben stood up for me and truthfully I am too. I didn't know how much longer I'd be able to put up with my mother's bullshit. Without saying another word I walked out of the house along with Ben. I couldn't stand being in a room another second with my mother, she'd just pushed boundaries. "Hadley, everything was going fine," Ben mumbled as we both got into the car. "But she was being an ass to you just because you have tattoos and because you're in a band," I began, "I love you and it hurts me when people say stuff like that to you. You're perfect Ben." Ben just smiled back at you before saying 'thank you', filling the silence. He kissed me lightly and drove us back home.
