Aiden and I ate our cereal with milk with Dad and Lauren sitting with us around the table.
'Aiden told me, Maria.' Lauren smiled as she blew on her coffee.
I glanced at Aiden and raised my eyebrow at him.
'About the Dayton High?' I asked.
She nodded her head.
'Lauren, It's fine honestly. I can fi-'
'Honey, you're like a daughter to me, it's totally fine if I pay for your school fees.' She interrupted me.
I looked at Dad and he looked back at me.
'Lauren, please.. Don't. You've helped us so much and I can't be more thankful. It's fine.' Dad smiled.
'No, I want to help you guys. Besides, we're staying at your house. It's the best I can do.' She insisted.
I smiled at her, still not convinced with the fact that she could be paying for my school fees. There was an awkward silence but Lauren broke it by saying,
'Ok... How about Maria takes the school test to see if she is good enough to be part of the school then we decide.' She smiled.
Dad smiled back, 'Ok, I like that.'
'You'll get in and pass. You're amazing!' She whispered to me.
I laughed.
