"That sure was a pretty bloke," John said to himself after Paul walked away. "Wait, what am I saying? I'm not queer." Yeah, pretty was just the best way to describe him. He was like a bird. "Not queer."

"So, you think the McCartney kid should join our band?" Pete Shotton asked him a while later.
"I don't know, lad. He's just...too good," John finished lamely.
"That's crazy. Of course he's good, I think he'd be a valuable member."
"Maybe." Truth be told, that wasn't the only reason he was hesitant. He was worried he might become more attracted to the younger boy. He was all he thought about, all the time.
No, he just wanted to befriend him. Nothing wrong with that.
"I'll think about it."
