This is a different take on when Lorelai invited Emily and Richard to Sooki's wedding, "Season 2, Episode 21: I can't get started". They think it's a pity invite and Lorelai didn't tell her that there wasn't any wedding invitation, but there wasn't one and Lorelai didn't bother to explain this is how I think she should have answered it.

(No one's POV)
It's Friday Night Dinner. Lorelai, Rory, and Emily is waiting for Richard.
"Oh, hey, mom". Lorelai said. "Sooki asked me to ask you and Dad to her wedding". She didn't really want to invite them, but she had promised sooki that she invite them.
"Well, that's nice, of course we will go, when is it?"
"This Sunday", Lorelai said. "Really so soon, where is our invitation?" Emily said.
"Well there's not an invitation, this is a verbal invite".
"So, we are an pity invite". Emily said, disturbed.
"Mom, Sooki's wants you and Dad to come".
"Then why didn't we get an invitation", Emily retorted.
"No, Mom, the reason why you didn't get an invitation is that no one is getting an invitation, that was getting invited, to the wedding. The invitation got messed up so we are going around Stars Hallow inviting them to her wedding verbally, and Sooki really wants you and Dad to come". Lorelai said, exasperated.
"Oh, okay, then we will be happy to come".
"Good, I'm glad".
