In "Season 3, Episode 13: Dear Emily and Richard" there was a flashback in where Lorelai gives birth to Rory, and then she had written a letter for Emily and Richard to let them know that she was leaving, but we never really found out what was in the letter this is the letter that she wrote.

I just wanted you to know that I'm leaving horse. I know that I embarrassed you, I'm sorry and wished that if happened differently and it did happen, and I know that people are talking, gossiping about you, so I'm leaving. I will forward my new address as soon as I know what that is.
