Chapter 9

I woke up very early and saw mam still sleeping beside me her arm draped on my waist and hair on her face. I smiled and remove the hair from her face gently tucking it behind her ear. I planted a kiss on her forehead then she started to move a bit making me froze but she didn't woke up. I sighed in relief and gently took her arm off me. I placed a pillow and rest her arm on it. I walked out of the room and went downstairs to the kitchen. I walk around the room finding something to cook. I walked to the fridge and open it. I saw some eggs so I took them out of the fridge and placed them by the table. I also saw some sausages so I also brought them out closing the fridge. I started to make breakfast.

Minutes later, I'm done with the fry up and put it on two plates. I took the two plates and arrange them on the table. I sat down and started to eat. While, I'm eating, I started to notice how big is this house. There are rooms upstairs that are empty and this kitchen is wide but it's only now that I notice. I looked to the door as I hear footsteps getting near then mam walked in and smile when she saw me.

"Goodmorning" I said as she walk over to me.

"Morning" She planted a kiss on my forehead.

"Eat up"

"You made breakfast?" She said as she sat at the opposite of the table and start to eat.

"D'you like it?" I asked and she nodded. I smiled at her.

"Uhm...Mam" She look up to me.

"I'm just wondering, why do you have so many rooms?" She opens her mouth to say something but then she closed it again and frown making me smile.

"Honestly, I really don't know" She blurted making us both giggle.

"This house is too big for you, Have you been living with someone else before?" She stopped eating and I think I hit a nerve. I swallowed and felt like not eating anymore as mam starts eating again but then she went quiet. Max you've done it again. I did sometging wrong again maybe if I lock myself in my room I might not get into trouble. I stood up taking my plate with me and go to the sink. I washed my plate and turn to walk to mam.

"I'm sorry, if I said something you didn't like." I whispered and gave her a kiss on the top of her head. "I'm just going in my room." I whispered and walked out of the room and went upstairs thinking what did I said that could probably upset her. I went to my room and closing the door behind me and collapse in bed and staring at the ceiling.

Did she lived with someone before, If she did why is she living alone here. And why did she change moods.

"Ugh. Max if you'd just shut your mouth" I mumbled. I sat on the corner of the room bringing my knees up to my chest putting my arms around them feeling a bit alone and guilty. I shouldn't said anything.

I didn't realized that I fell asleep until I was woken up by mam gently tapping my cheek and rubbing my arms. I look up to her and she smiled at me.

"Hey, you fell asleep."

"I'm sorry about earlier." I whispered and she sighed.

"I'm gonna tell you something but first you have to get off the floor." She helped me up and we sat on the bed.

"Its okay, you don't have to tell me things you're uncomfortable talking about"

"No, I have to say this to you." I sighed and nodded.

"I used to be married." I look at her and I'm a bit shock about that.

"And we live in this house but then he cheated on me over and over again" I look away trying to take it all in. Who would cheat if your wife is so pretty that its like she isn't real.

"And when I had enough, I divorced him." I look at her and she gave me a small smile. I got on my knees on the bed and hugged her.

"What a jerk" I said and I heard her laugh making me smile. I pulled away and look at her and she has that smile back. I srunched up my nose as she tapped it making her giggle. She pulled out something out of her pocket, a rectangular thing that I don't know what its called but I've seen it before.

"Smile babe" She said as she raised the thing and saw my face, I hugged mam hiding my face cause I just realized something. I'm so thin that I already looked like a skeleton.

"Aww, Maxene why'd you looked away." She said as she rest her arm on my back.

"I'm ugly" I said simply. Mam tried to pull away but I held on her tighter.

"Maxene you're not ugly" She said softly as I felt her rubbing my back or should I say spine.

"Yes I am, I look like a skeleton" I said and I heard her sigh.

"Babe, your beautiful, don't let yourself down".

"But... I'm so thin. I think when I fall, I might break all my bones."

"Max, you'll not break your bones okay." I giggled at her and pull away.

"Just one thing, Please. please get some food in you. I'm started to get worried about your health and when you mention to me last night that you only eat breakfast. Well, that's not enough." She said firmly like she was scolding me but I like it. It just proves that she loves me and cares for me.

"What?" She tilt her head on the side confused.

"I love you" I said as I jump on her hugging her making us fall on the bed giggling. She went quiet staring at me.

"You love me?" She whispered and started tearing up. I smiled and nodded. She hugged me tight making me smile.

"Uhm...Mam, I can't stay here" She pulled away quickly and looked at me.

"What about the orphanage, I just escaped there remember?" She sat up straight and grab the rectangular thing again an did something on that and put it near her ear.

"Hi, this is Cheryl Cole....Its about Maxene...yes...I found her." She looked at me and winked making me giggle. " Well you see, she won't be coming back there....I found out days ago that she's my long lost daughter." I smiled at her." Yea....When?...Okay, I'm looking forward to that... Thanks Mark" She put down the thing and looked at me with a wide smile.

"That's settled, He said that he'll be coming tomorrow and talk to us." I sighed and lie on the bed staring at the ceiling.

"What if he takes me away?" She sighed and lie beside me.

"I won't let that happen" She whispered making me smile.
