As the days past Lui Wei found new things that he liked about his Queen Wife.  She knew how to play four instruments, she knew poetry, chess, calligraphy and painting.  She liked to read and eat new dishes that the chefs creates. She knew how to make tea and drink it by the garden pavillion.  She took care of her appearances and manners. She treated those around her well and governed the women in the back palace well.  She was fair and just. Smart and beautiful. She was everything a Queen should be.

Out of all of this that he found out, what he liked the most about her was that she preferred silence, so she could laze around and read while her servants feed her fruits. Or play her instruments by the pond as the sun shinned down on her and the soft wind blows, making her music travel straight to his heart.  

The first time he saw her laying on her outdoor chaise, shoes and socks off, while wearing a thin outer layer of her clothes, brought him close to her body and everyone else out of her courtyard for the next hour.  They made sweet slow love, outside for the whole world to see, however it was only the two of them that mattered in that world.

Every day that he spent with her, he came to understand her more and more.  He began to appreciate her and cherish her. The seed of affection that he had for her took root and bloomed into a beautiful flower that occupied his mind.  Just the thought of her could bring a smile to his mouth and warmth to his eyes.

When Bai Yu’s two month punishment was up, she completed 20 copies of the Four Womanly Virtues and immediately visited  Queen Ame. This time when Ame entered the room, Bai Yu bowed perfectly in respect towards her.

Raine sat down and let Bai Yu keep bowing.  Why did she come the moment her punishment was lifted to meet her?  Did she hear about her husband’s escapes into her room every night? Did she come here to confront her? Did she come here to make trouble?

“Stand.”  Raine commanded.  “Please sit, Consort Bai Yu.  You must be tired from your reflection period.”  

Bai Yu couldn’t hold her sneer back and it showed.  Her face and demeanor changed instantly before changing back to her innocent and cute self.  

“Noble Consort Bai Yu understands the mistake I made and the laws I broke.  The punishment given to this Noble Consort was justified. I had the time to reflect on my ways and came here to apologise to Queen Ame.”  

“That’s good t,hat Noble Consort has reflected and understands why you were punished.  The punishment must have been hard on you, please do not hold a grudge against this Queen or the King.  The laws and punishments are something that was already established before we became King and Queen. It is something that we cannot change.  This Queen hopes you understand this.”

Bai Yu smiled, but her smile was not right.  It looked like she was grinning angrily instead.  

“Noble Consort Bai Yu, understands.”

“That’s great.  Now that Noble Consort Bai Yu is no longer under punishment, you must take care and pay more attention to King Lui Wei.  He has had a hard time at court during your punishment period and it is in our best interest not to create more issues for our King.”  

Bai Yu couldn’t stand the way Queen Ame talked down to her as if they were not equals!  She always hated how noble women talked down to commoners as if the commoners were stupid and insignificant.  And with Queen Ame who kept on reminding her of her punishment, it reminded her of Lui Wei staying away from her for two month and it reminded her that he was with Queen Ame instead.  Her heart grew more hateful as jealousy grew thicker and thicker.

Bai Yu wanted to scratch Queen Ame’s face, and gouge her eyes out.  She wanted to ruin Ame’s beautiful looks and burn her hands that touched her man.  She wanted to gut Ame’s body and pull out all of her organs so Ame would be nothing, but a husk. Then Bai Yu wanted to throw her body into the woods and let the wild animals feed off of her carcass.

“This Queen also hopes that you have become more noble.  How we act is a direct reflection of King Lui Wei and we cannot make him lose face.  Now that your punish--”

“You!”  Bai Yu shouted as she stood up.  She could no longer hold herself back.  She hated hearing Ame bring up the word ‘punishment’.  It reminded her of her sadness and loneliness. It reminded her that she was punished because of Ame.  “You, shut up! You don’t know anything about Lui Wei! You know nothing about his love for me! You know nothing about my love for him!  If you think that just because he came to your bed every night, that he’ll love you. You’re wrong. He loves me. He can only love me. He told me he hated you!  He only made you Queen because of your family. If not for my commoner background, he would have made me Queen instead! Don’t think that you can replace me! You are nothing to him and will always be nothing to him!”  

“BAI YU!!!!!!”  Lui Wei shouted from the entrance of the door.  

It had become a habit for him to eat lunch with his Queen Wife and spend the afternoon with her.  Today’s court session went well and ended early so he decided to visit his Queen Wife early. Who would have thought he heard Bai Yu and his Queen Wife’s whole conversation.  

His Queen Wife was always so thoughtful towards him.  She was so considerate of him that she endured his beloved’s insolence for two years.  Now that she is trying to teach his beloved some manners, his beloved threw his Queen Wife’s consideration back to her face.  He thought Bai Yu learned from her mistakes and learned some manners. However the updates during her punishment period were a lie. She learned nothing.  She became the same spoiled, selfish woman that he hated. Once her actions were cute to him, now they annoyed him.

“Lui Wei!”  Bai Yu said as she froze in surprise.
