Lui Wei’s birthday banquet was grand.  Every important Minister and General were in attendance, as well as their wives and children.  Noble Consort Mei Ran and the 3rd rank Concubines and above were in attendance as well. When Lui Wei and Ame were announced by Eunuch Sube, the hall quieted down to see two absolutely beautiful people walk into the room, hand in hand.

One was King, the other was Queen.  One wore red and gold, while the other wore plum purple and gold.  Their image was one of a powerful and unified monarchy.

Everyone bowed and secretly watched in awe as the King treated the Queen with favor.  Helping her each step of the way, even up the stairs and in her seat, he made sure to take care of her.  When they were dismissed to stand and sit, everyone looked at the Zimco Clan in envy. Not only were the Zimco Clan known for producing scholars and ministers, there were also strong and courageous military men.  And now their daughter is also a favored Queen. The Zimco Clan would rule over everyone else for generations to come.

When the music played and the dancers came out to dance, the wine poured freely and the food came out in endlessly.  Lui Wei had a smile on his face as he was constantly toasted and flattered.

When it was time to give gifts, everyone gave him priceless gifts, even Ame’s family gave him a hard to find brush set from his favorite poet.  Lui Wei’s smile could not be hidden as he accepted his gifts and toasted everyone back as well.

The long banquet finally ended and as Lui Wei led Ame out, masked men stormed in and attempted to kill him. Lui Wei’s hidden guards quickly subdued the masked men, however in the chaos, he and Ame were surrounded by their guests.   

Ame held onto Lui Wei’s hand tightly as she cried out in fear and surprise.  To Lui Wei’s surprise, he could only watch as a dagger appear between bodies and stab him, however Ame, quickly hugged his front tightly.  Instead of hurting him, the dagger dug into Ame. Piercing her shoulder and back, causing her to scream out in pain.

“Guards!”  Lui Wei cried out in a panic.  His eyes were glued on to his Queen Wife who protected him.  

The guards quickly lead them out of the crowded room, while Lui Wei carried Ame to his chambers.  Bai Yu’s cries of Lui Wei’s name were brushed aside and forgotten in the midst of the chaos.

“Go find an imperial physician!” Lui Wei ordered as they entered his chambers and he quickly laid Ame down on her front.  Her lips and face were pale. And her breathing was faint.

“Go get warm water and medical supplies!” Lui Wei ordered as he ripped the top of her dress to see the wound.  It was deep and blood gushed out constantly. Lui Wei took a clean towel and pressed down on the wound, causing Ame to groan out in pain.  

“Stay with me, my Queen.”  Lui Wei said as he bent down to look at her face.  Her eyes fluttered lightly before opening them. Her eyes held fear and unshed tears.  “Stay with me.”

“Are you hurt?”  Ame said softly.

“No. I’m fine.”  

“That’s good. As long as you’re fine.”  Ame said softly as her eyes began to close.  

“No!  Don’t fall asleep.  Not yet. Look at me.  Ame!” Lui Wei pleaded.  “Ame! Look at me! Stay with me!”  

Ame’s eyes opened back up and stared back at him.  A faint smile could be seen as she tried to hide the pain she was feeling.  

“As long as you’re fine, that’s all that matters.”  

“No!  You have to be fine as well!  You can’t leave me do you hear!  You can’t leave me to do this all by myself! I need you!”  

Ame’s tears fell silently as she looked at him and shook her head no.  

“This is how it is supposed to be.  You’ll be a fine King, without me.”

“No… no… I can’t do this without you.”  

“You can…. and you will… when I’m gone….”  

“No!  Don’t speak like that!  You’ll survive!”

“When I’m gone… make the one you have always love, your Queen.  That way, she’ll always be happy and no more hearts would have to break knowing that their love one is with someone else.”

“Ame… I…”

“Make her your Queen when I’m gone.”  

“Please… fight… and stay… for me… for us… I need you.”

“Hold my hand… I feel so cold…”   Ame cried softly. “I want you to be happy, my King.  Be happy with the one you love by your side.”

Lui Wei held onto her hand and squeezed it tightly.  Her hand was cold and he could see fear in her eyes as she wished him the best.  His Ame always thought about him before anyone else. Even herself. His Ame….

His happiness… His peace… His heart… His beloved…

“If you want me to be happy, with the one I love, then you must live, do you hear me, Ame!” Lui Wei finally said, once he realized his feelings.  

When silence answered him back, he panicked.  

“Ame!”  

The imperial physician rushed into the room and quickly accessed the situation.  With the help of four guards, they were finally able to pry Lui Wei from Ame and push him out of the room, leaving the pysician and some maids to help.  

Lui Wei wanted to behead those four guards, but they were his personal shadow guards.  They all kneeled, waiting for their fate to be decided, but they knew that their King was in turmoil.  

“Find out who planned the assassination and bring them back alive.  Bring back those that they love alive. And kill everyone related to them.  I want them to experience how it feels to have their love ones die in front of them.  Go.”

The four shadow guards left quickly and Eunuch Sube took care of Lui Wei.  Helping him wash off the blood off of his skin and change into a new robe. By the time he was clean and drinking tea, imperial physician Chi came out of the room and bowed to him.  

“How is she?”

“Queen Ame is alive and sleeping.  She has lost a lot of blood. The wound is deep and long.  There will be a scar.  There is also signs of --”

Lui Wei left Physician Chi without listening to the rest of his words.  He entered his room, while Eunuch Sube spoke to Physician Chi on Queen Ame’s treatment.  Lui Wei dismissed everyone in the room once he saw Ame’s small frame sleeping on his large bed.

The white gauze against her pale skin, made his nerves run erratically.  He gently laid down next to her and took her hair ornaments out and fixed her hair to the side.  His eyes never left her face, fearing that if he closed his eyes, she would disappear.

“Stay with me.  Be my Queen. Be my wife. Be the mother to my children.  Grow old with me. Do this and I’ll give you my all. I won’t make you cry again.  Make you worry or make you sad. I won’t make you feel as if you’re my second choice.  Stay with me and let me make it up to you. Let me convince you that there is only you inside of my heart.  I love you.”
