“Can you blame me? You look so tempting everyday. Especially this morning, the dress you are wearing is making me think these lewd thoughts. You should take responsibility for what you caused.”
“I can’t control what you feel and how you feel it, so I’m not responsible for anything. You’re just trying to take advantage of this innocent, naive girl. Too bad your 12 years too late.” Elise said as she began walking again.
“If you don’t want to take responsibility, then I will.” Axel said as he passes her down the hall and stops right in front of her. “I’ll take responsibility for my actions. I’m sorry I ran away like a coward. I’m sorry I never gave you a chance. I’m sorry my actions caused your grandfather’s illness to exacerbate, thus causing his death. I’m sorry I left without a word, without a chance, without a care. I’m sorry if ever my words or actions have hurt you in the past. I’m sorry it took me so many years to finally meet you. I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you when I first saw you. I’m sorry that you feel as if I’m not worthy enough to marry you.”
Axel took a step closer to Elise. His hand comes up and hold her around the waist, bringing her closer to him
“But if you give me a chance. Just one, I’ll change your mind about what kind of a man you think I am. That man, that left you at our wedding, no longer exist. The man before you, is a man of his word. A courageous man. A loving man. A giving man. A man, who just wants to be with you, because he fell in love with you the moment he saw you. Because he loves you, the Keeper, the Doctor, the one and only, Elise Sweeny. The love of my life.”
Axel cupped her face so her head tilted back. His thumb runs across her cherry red lips.
“Give me the chance that I didn’t give you in the past. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice and wait another 12 years to be with you. Please Elise.”
[Damn.... what a slick man you are, Lui Wei. Gotta give it to you, lover boy.]
“One.” Elise said after a long time of silence. “Only one. Mess up and that’s it. I was free from you a long time ago, I can be free of you afterwards.”
Axel broke into a wide smile that showed his teeth. His eyes shined brightly with happiness as he looks at her.
“You won’t regret it, because I don’t want to regret it either.”
Axel leans down and lightly kisses her lips. Her soft lips were just as soft as he imagined, but she didn’t open her mouth for a deeper kiss. For now it was enough, this sweet, light kiss, from one man’s promise to his woman. It was enough to begin their courtship.
Axel broke their kiss and buries his head between her neck and shoulder, smelling her scent before tightly squeezing her body to his and turning them around and around. His whole body radiated happiness. Everything finally made sense in his life. Everything felt right, with Elise in his arms.
“Ahem.” A male voice cleared behind Axel, causing him to stop spinning and turn towards the noise.
Axel and Elise both turned and saw the whole family standing at the end of the hall.
“Ah… how long have you’ve been standing there?” Axel asked with a worried look.
The dark look on all of his family’s faces caused him to begin to worry.
“Long enough.” Derek said as he frowned. “Those words you said, are pretty smooth, makes me think you’ve said them before.”
“I haven’t! I swear! I’ve only ever concentrated on being a soldier, I’ve never felt this way before.” Axel confessed.
“If you’re not serious about what you just said to Elise, I won’t approve of this relationship.” Derek warned. “I broke too many promises to her and the Sweeny’s. I won’t even be able to greet them in the afterlife if you break your word to her, that you just promised.”
“I’m very serious. I won’t break my word to her. On my life, I would never do anything to hurt her.” Axel told them.
“Elise, darling. What are your thoughts?” Rose asked. She was happy to see them together, for she always thought they would be a great pair. It was her son who does not have discerning eyes that cannot see.
“I told him I’m going to give him a chance. If he mess up, I’m gone.”
“You sure?” Rose asked her again.
Axel felt some type of a way. Was he their son or not? Why are they treating him like a villain in his own home?
“I’m sure.” Elise told them.
“Very well.” Derek said as he sighed. How did their lives become so messy? Had that hard headed grandson listen to him in the first place, they would have long been married with two to three children already!!!! Not only that, but he could never deny Elise anything that she wanted. Even if it’s a chance she gave to his hard headed grandson, to win her trust and love. Should they do get married, he would be very happy and could hold his head up high, when he meets his friend again in the afterlife.
“Breakfast is ready.” Rose told them. “We came to get the two of you before heading downstairs.”
“We’ll be right there, just give us a moment.” Axel asked.
The three of them waited for a moment, before walking downstairs and leaving them together.
Axel leaned into Elise’s body and begins to push her back until her back hits the wall. Their bodys are lined up with each other with no room between them. He buries his head to the side of her neck again and breathes in deeply, calming his nerves.
“I thought they would tell me that I couldn’t court you.” Axel admitted. “For a moment, I thought they would deny our request and I would have to beg them to let me court you. I’m glad they gave us a chance to work things out between us. I’m glad you gave me a chance. I’m glad I met you before it was too late. I’m just so glad, I don’t know what to do.”
Slowly Elise raises her arms and places them around his neck, bringing them closer. Her hold tightens around his neck as she smells his hair. That same sweet and alluring scent was with him as she closed her eyes and smiled.
For a few minutes, they stayed that way. The warmth between them could be seen, however the woman standing at the end of the hall only felt ice daggers stabbing at her heart. The scene before her was wrong. It should have been her who is in his arms. Her that made him happy. Her that he loves. This is not what her life is suppose to be.
Sabine left as quietly as she arrived to see the two lover hold each other. Axel tilted his head to the side, towards the end of the hall and his quick glance was like a slash from a sword. Sabine froze for a moment, not knowing why she felt her life was in danger. Quickly gathering her feelings, she walks downstairs not understanding how close she is to death.
Axel pulls away and gently kisses Elise’s forehead. His hands brushes her hair away from her face and he kisses her forehead again.
“Let’s go.’ Axel tells her. “They’re probably waiting downstairs with a worried look. They probably think I must have ravage you in the middle of the hallway.”
“Once they forgive you, they’ll think the world about you again.” Elise told him as she let him hold her hand as they walked.
“It’s my fault they think so badly of me. It’s also my responsibility to win their trust again.”
