The short scene they displayed, caused a large scandal as word of their actions was soon reported to the Devereux’s.  After 30 minutes, the Devereux’s walked up to the clinic and saw the handsome guard speaking comfortably with their daughter-in-law.  

“Can everyone give us a moment?”  Derek asked the waiting patients as they bowed at him then exited the clinic.  “Not you, young man. You stay.”

Derek pointed at Scam to stop when he began to get up from his chair.  

“Elise?  Do you know this new guard?”  Rose asked once they were alone.  

“I do.”  Elise answered as she nodded her head.  

“Who is he to you?”  

“Let me introduce myself.  My name is Odan Marcella. Childhood friend to Lady Elise and her Honor Guard.”  

“Honor Guard?”  Rose, Derek and Brice said at the same time.  

“But Honor Guards are to only guard Keepers.  Elise is a doctor, she isn’t…” Rose said, but then slowly realized what Odan’s meaning is.  

Rose quickly turns towards Elise and holds her hands.

“Since when?  When have you been blessed by the Gods to be a Keeper of the realm?”   

Elise squeezed Rose’s hand back and gave her a tight smile.  

“Not long.  For about a few days now.”  Raine lied, going along with Scam System aka “Oden’s” story.  He had conveniently forgotten to mention about Honor Guards, who guards and serves the Keepers wholeheartedly.  “I didn’t know how to tell you guys. When Odan showed up, I didn’t believe him at first, but lately I’ve been feeling different.  Without his help, I would have hurt myself or others through my lack of knowledge and control. I’m sorry. ”

Rose hugs Elise tightly and muffles into her shoulder.  

“There’s nothing to be sorry about.  You have been blessed by the Gods.”

“What powers have you’ve manifested so far?”  Derek asked as he looked at Elise and Odan with questioning eyes.  

“Stand back.”  Elise said as she too took several steps back.  “I don’t have full control yet, but I can show you a little.”  

Elise raised her hand in front of her with her palm up.  Elise’s hand began to glow yellow then orange, then suddenly in the palm of her hand was a small flame the grew bigger and bigger until Elise closed her hand into a fist.  Once her hand became a fist, the fire disappeared and the room descended into silence.

The Devereux’s has seen the proof of their daughter-in-law becoming a Keeper.  They knew that she would need to leave their home to cultivate her magic so she could prepare for the day that The Soulless invades their realm.  

“I don’t want to let you go.”  Derek confessed as he sighed heavily.  “I made a promise to your grandfather, but now it seems your fate with Axel was never meant to be.  The two of you were meant to walk parallel paths, but never intersecting.”

“Dad?  What do you mean?”  Brice asked as he squinted his eyebrows together.  

“Elise’s betrothal to Axel will be annulled.  Since Axel does not want to marry Elise and Elise has now become a Keeper, their fates and our families were not meant to be tied together.  Instead, I’ll adopt Elise as my daughter.” Derek said as he felt a great sadness inside of him. He had wanted Elise to become his granddaughter-in-law and hold her baby with Axel in his arms, but it was not meant to be.  

“You adopt Elise?” Rose asked.  “Wouldn’t it make more sense if we adopt Elise?  If you adopt her, she’ll become Axel’s adoptive Aunt.”  

“No, I have to adopt her as my daughter.” Derek overruled them.  “It was me, who brokered the betrothal, me who made promises and me who broke the promise.  It is only fair that she becomes my daughter.”

“We’ll do as you say, Father.”  Brice said as he pulled Rose’s hand to hold.  

“What do you think, Elise?  Would you be fine with that decision?”  

“Yes.”  Elise told them.

“This is your home, you’re always welcome back.”  Brice said as he came to hug Elise. “Remember to write to us, at least once a month.”    

Soon afterwards, the Devereux’s adopted Elise into their family, however it was in a private ceremony and it was not announced to the public.  Only a handful of people knew about the broken betrothal agreement and the adoption of Elise. And only the Devereux family knew that Elise has become a Keeper.  

When Elise left to cultivate her magic, the Devereux gave the excuse that Elise was going to train with one of her professors and that she would not be back for a long time.  

When Elise left for her training, she only brought one new Devereux guard.  Elise left with a large amount of money that each Rose, Brice and Derek gave her individually.  The rode away on their horse during the early morning, before the sun rose up, leaving behind the Devereux family and castle.  

Raine and Scam lived a lazy four years, traveling the world, while curing the sick on the way.  She slowly made a name for herself and was known as God’s Hands, who was able to bring back the sick from death’s door.  Because she had become somewhat famous, her travels became more covert as she wore disguises as she traveled. However when she treated patients, she didn’t wear any disguises.  It would only seem as if she popped up in different places in the country, which made her even more mysterious.

When it was time for The Soulless to attack Raine stood in the back of the armies and waited for the perfect time.  Now that it was time for Raine to meet the male lead, she didn’t intervene with the war until after Axel went missing.  Only then did Raine show up and immediately engulfed The Soulless army with flames. The intense flame became a blue inferno and quickly burned The Soulless into dust.  

After the blue inferno, no one could identify the Keeper with the God-like powers, but they were happy that the Keeper saved them all.  The Soulless war lasted for a year.

The moment that Raine left the battle scene, she flew with Scam to the cliff that Axel fell down.  As they flew down, they saw Axel’s battered body that was broken in several places. Raine scooped Axel into her arms and flew with him to her hidden home in the woods.
