Soon the song stopped and Ayla placed the flute on her lap. Her eyes glued to the moon as she heavily sighed. Her thoughts hidden from everyone as she continued to stare into the starless night.
After sometime, Ayla stood up and without looking, she leapt into the air and landed five feet away from where Evren stood. Ayla’s eyes widen in surprise as she quickly looked over Evren’s figure and how much it had changed.
Evren had grown taller. Ayla head could only reach Evren’s chin. Evren’s body was also more toned as she had lost all of her baby fat. Her features were sharp and no longer soft or gentle. However the only soft thing about her was how Evren looked at Ayla.
“You’re back.” Ayla whispered.
“I’m back.” Evren confirmed.
Without another word, Evren opened her arms and without hesitation Ayla jumped into Evren’s arms as Evren caught Ayla and spun her around. Evren’s hold on Ayla tightened and Evren bent her head down to breath in Ayla’s comforting scent.
A year apart and they only have one night and half a day until they were separated again. During her travels she would think about Ayla all the time. It became especially hard when it became night time. It was then that Evren missed Ayla the most. Evren endured her thoughts and feelings of Ayla and concentrated on exploring the world, learning other cultures, meeting new people and experiencing new and exciting things.
The year away felt like 100 years apart. Now she only has a limited time to be with Ayla before she goes into closed door training for another two years.
“Did you bring me a gift?” Ayla asked once Evren placed her down onto the ground.
“A year away and you only care about your gift? Do you not even care about how I have been?” Evren said as she pulled back to look upon Ayla’s devine features.
“You are Mother’s 1st disciple. How can you get hurt in the outside world? Mother says you are very cautious, intelligent and powerful. That your skills are above many and there is no one who could beat you.” Ayla said as she pouted. “You promised to get me a gift before you left. Did you forget while you were away as I waited for you to bring it back? Did you even think about me at all?”
Evren quickly hugged Ayla and tighten her hold on Ayla’s small and soft body that perfectly fit next to hers. She wanted to tell Ayla how much she missed Ayla. How much she thought about Ayla. How much her heart yearned for Ayla. But how could she? Although her heart recognized Ayla as hers, but did Ayla feel the same way?
“How could I forget you?” Evren could only say as she lead Ayla by the hand and back into their quarters. “Of course I remembered to get you a gift.”
Evren made Ayla sit down at the table as she pulled out Ayla’s gift from her bag that was left by the side of the door. The large package was then placed on the table, in front of Ayla.
“Open it.” Evren ordered as she sat next to Ayla, watching her every move and memorizing every time Ayla’s features change from surprise, delight and happiness.
Ayla opened the package and inside of the package was several smaller wrapped gifts. There was four in total. The first gift was three, peach blossom hairpin set. It was finely crafted and made out of pearls, unique gemstones and jade.
The second gift was a 12 inch sandalwood fan that was intricately carved of a dragon flying over the moon. It’s tail was embracing the moon as if it was protecting it like the moon was it’s treasure.
The third gift was a plain necklace made of a soft leather strap that tied around her neck. It hung low enough that the wooden, heart shaped carving with a wolf howling to the moon, rested between the valley of her breast.
The fourth and last gift was a heavy asymmetrical cloth that could be tied into a skirt around the hips or into a shawl, around the shoulders. It had several different coins sewn on it. Every time it moved, the coins would clink together, making noise. Each coin was different and unique.
“Each coin comes from a different place I visited.” Evren told Ayla. “Every time I thought about you, I sewed a coin into this cloth as I prayed for your health and safety.”
“There’s so many.” Ayla said in awe as her fingers lightly grazed over each hanging coin.
“I thought about you every day for the past year.” Evren admitted.
Ayla looked into Evren’s eyes and could seen Evren’s steady and determine gaze. Ayla gently smiled and looked back down at the gift in her hands.
“Thank you. Although all of the gifts are beautiful and precious, this is the best of them all.” Ayla told her. “And this one.”
Ayla said as she picked up the plain necklace and quickly wore it around her neck. She could tell that Evren made it with her own hands. Ayla brought the heart shaped pendant to her lips and kissed it.
“I’ll cherish them forever.”
That night, Evren and Ayla laid in the same bed, facing each other as they softly spoke to each other about their time apart. The night deepened and the daylight broke, but they still spoke to each other, knowing that their time together was limited until they would be forced to be apart again.
When it came time to Evren to leave, Evren kept on looking back onto Ayla’s figure and face as if she wanted more time to be with Ayla.
“Wait.” Ayla quickly shouted just before Evren could open the door and leave.
Evren quickly turned around and with hopeful eyes she watched as Ayla took a green ribbon and tied a bow around a small lock of her hair. Ayla then grabbed a paring knife and cut her hair.
“I don’t have anything to give to you.” Ayla said as she placed her lock of hair in the palm of Evren’s hand. “While you’re in the closed door training and find yourself thinking about me, here is a little something of myself to remind you of me.”
“Thank you.” Evren quickly said as she closed her fist around Ayla’s lock of hair. “I’ll keep it well.”
“Train diligently and stay healthy.” Ayla reminded her.
“Stay safe and don’t skip any meals.” Evren reminded Ayla back.
Ayla’s grey eyes met Evren’s warm ink eyes and gently smiled. Evren quickly hugged Ayla before pulling apart and quickly leaving without looking back. If Evren stayed for another minute, she wouldn’t be able to leave Ayla behind for another two years.
Evren tightly squeezed Ayla’s lock of hair in her fist. The soft lock of red hair was the spark that lit her will to train diligently for the next two years so they could meet again.Ayla stood back and watched Evren until her shadow could no longer be seen.
With Nermin gone and Scam System placing a tracker on her, Raine would always know where Nermin is and set her and Dilek up. The time of Raine’s plans to take revenge for Ayla began now. Even though she couldn’t be with Valentin for the time being. The two of them needed time apart to grow and will have the rest of their current lives to live together, Gods willing.
