“What is it, darling?”  Rose asked as she too placed her teacup down.

“I would like to go to medical school and follow the footsteps of by family.”  Elise told.

The determined look on her face made the two men look at each other first with worry, then with understanding.  Now, with no direction in her life, she would need to do something that would not only occupy her time, but also bring meaning to her life.

“Alright.”  Derek said as he agreed.  “We can send you to medical school in the capital city, Qiria, but you must come home during your break and write us letters to know of your welfare.”

“Thank you.”  Elise said as she forced a smile at them.  “I’ll do my best at medical school and ensure that I do not bring shame on the Devereux name or Sweeny name.”

Raine left the three alone and went up to her room to rest.  It would take at least a week for Derek to write a recommendation letter and enroll her in medical school.  It would also take another week to travel to the capital city, and a few days to settle her into one of the Devereux’s estate in the capital and buy supplies for school.  Knowing the Devereux’s, they would send maids, servants and guards for Elise’s every comfort and protection.

Raine entered her room and saw that it was a shared room with Axel.  Every place in the room, had Axel’s imprint on it, from his clothes, to his knick knacks, to his weapons.  Everything inside of the room, held a trace of him, while her belongings were still in chests.

“Odette?”  Raine asked as she stopped in the middle of the room.

“Yes, m’lady?”  Odette asked as she waited by the door.

“Is the room across from here occupied?”

“No, m’lady”

“Have people help you bring my things into the other room.”  Raine said as she turns around and walks into her new room. “I refuse to sleep where I am not welcomed.”

Odette had a look of uncertainty.  Although the Devereux’s recognized Elise as their new Young Lady, Young Lord Axel did not.  As Odette sent another maid to go tell the Lady Rose, Odette began to move Elise’s belongings into the room across from Young Lord Axel’s room.

The maid came back with two men and just gave a nod to Odette, letting her know that Lady Rose gave permission for the move.

Once inside of her new room, Raine looked around the room, checking out the bathing room, how hard the bed was and stopped when she passed her own reflection.  The mirror that hanged on the wall showed a reflection of a young woman, not even 20 years old. Elise was tall, fit and had a mysterious look to her. She had violet hair, not just any violet, but a pastel violet with gold eyes that hid her emotions.  Other than her hair and eyes, her features were quite plain.

“Scam System, why do I have violet hair?”  Raine asked as she brushed her pastel hair back away from her shoulders.

[This is a fantasy western novel.  Anyone can have any color of hair and eyes.]

“Do they have magic here?”

[Yes, however only very strong individuals, known as Keepers, can use magic.  Keepers usually keep to themselves, preferring to live a hermit lifestyle and only coming out to save the world from The Soulless.

The Soulless are ghoul-like creatures unleashed into the world by the Demons every 10 years.  Once The Soulless are defeated, the Demons have to wait another 10 years for the two realms of humanity and demons to align for them to send more Soulless to take over the world.
