Two months passed by quickly as Axel courted Elise.  He stuck to her like glue and was sweet to her like honey.  His actions caused the family, staff and guards to tease him, but he didn’t care.  His mission to get Elise to fall in love with him was serious. It meant the happiness of two people and the world to him.

As his birthday party drew near, the number of attendees grew to be over 300 people.  Some of them, he didn’t even know, but he didn’t care. He was going to surprise Elise on that day and ask her to marry him.

As his birthday drew closer, he became nervous.  What if she says no? What if she still doesn’t trust him?  What if she leaves after this? As his doubts began to overcome his confidence, he stuck to Elise’s side even more.

The day of his birthday party, Axel dressed up in his best suit and groomed himself well.  The carriages has been coming in and out of the courtyard for the past two hours, dropping off the nobles at the door, while they were directly led to the dining room and the ballroom.

Axel checked himself one more time before opening his door and knocking on Elise’s door.  He waited and waited, as he rose his hand to knock on the door again, it opened and before him was a vision he would never forget.

Elise’s hair was down and somehow curled into big soft ringlets.  Her hair framed her face perfectly. Her cherry red lips glistened against her skin, and the kohl around her eyes enlarged them even more.  Her white dress, showed off her curves, yet it covered her body perfectly.

Axel suddenly forgot how to think.  Her sweet smile brought him back to the present and he knelt down on one knee and pulled out his ancestor’s wedding ring.

“I have been a fool for most of my life, but the moment I met you, I knew I could only be a fool for you.  I have missed out on 12 years of love, adventure, and happiness with you. I don’t want to miss anymore years without you.  I love you, Elise. I will cherish you, honor you, protect you and love you. I want to stay by your side and make memories of love and laughter as we grow old. Elise Sweeny, Doctor to the people, Keeper to the realm. Woman of my heart and soul. Will you marry me?”

Suddenly Elise’s eyes soften and it glistened as she nodded her head yes.

“Yes, I’ll marry you.  I’ll marry you, my love.”  Elise told him.

Axel stood up and hugged her.  Their feelings for each other was finally acknowledge and confirmed.    Once he place the ring on her finger he kissed her right afterwards. Their kiss only lasted for a moment as they heard clapping from down the hall as his family witnessed everything that just happened.

“When did you guys get here?”  Axel asked as he pouted. He wanted the special moment to be between them, but now the memory was shared with others, he felt cheated.

“From the beginning, lad.”  Brice said as they hugged him and Elise.

“I’m so happy for you guys!”  Rose told them as she began to cry.

“It’s about time!”  Derek told Axel as he hit Axel on the back of his head then came around to hug Ellise.  “Come it’s time to go to the North wing to greet our guests.”

Derek lead the way, followed by Brice and Rose, then Elise and Axel.  Axel held Elise around the waist as they proceeded to the ballroom. The loud chatter of men and women could be heard as they came closer and closer to the closed ballroom door.

When they reached the door, Brice, Rose and Derek stood to the side as two servants opens the double doors.  When the doors opens, soft music begins to play and the voices die down to look at the main event.

Axel opens his eyes wide in surprise as he realized that the ballroom was decorated in white flowers and soft cream satin that canopied the whole room.  The right side and left side of the ballroom had chairs for their guests and a pathway for him and Elise to walk down on. At the end of the pathway was a priest and above him was a large crystal chandelier that reflected rays of light around the room.

“You going to run away from our wedding again?”  Elise teased him, but he could see her eyes tried to hide her worry.

“Never.”  Axel told her as he leaned down to lightly kiss her.  “I’ll never run away from us, ever again.”

Axel walked Elise down the path as everyone watched, General Axel Devereux marry Doctor Elise Sweeny.  This time, the groom was there to marry the bride and the celebration afterwards was one that the nobility would talk about for years to come.
