I couldn't take my eyes away from him, it felt as though I was stuck staring at his dark, tall frame. He wasn't talking, he was just standing there looking down at his hands. I could feel the room growing uncomfortable as everyone patiently waited for him to begin. He was nervous, I could tell by the way he was acting. Why though? I wasn't sure. When he finally spoke, his voice billowed around the room, striking my heart as his low tone entered my ears.

"I would like to thank you all for this... opportunity. But-... I'm sorry... I cannot accept your offer..." Severus turned to look at Dumbledore as I felt my heart starting to beat rapidly, pumping my blood roughly through my veins. Suddenly, I was light headed. I took off the scarf, afraid that I was going to burst with happiness. Even though I wasn't positive why he would be doing this, I couldn't help but assume it was because of me. As soon as I let the scarf leave my neck, sorrow swept over me, but there was something new there... hope. I expected Severus to walk out of the room at this point. But he didn't, he simply stood there, in front of a room filled with some very confused people. Even I was confused... was he doing this for me?

"Severus... I don't understand..." Dumbledore began as Snape had turned back towards the podium, his eyes taking in all the stares that were silently pointing towards him.

"I'm quitting." Gasps were heard repeating around the room, everyone was shocked at his words, including me. This wasn't what we had planned.

"You see... This year has taught me a lot about myself... I use to think that my work was all that mattered... all that consumed me... But then I met someone... She ended up changing my life forever." As Severus spoke the room felt immaculately still, everyone was concentrated on his next words. It felt as though the entire school wanted to know the mystery of the Potions Master. I felt Hermione's eyes shoot to me as I glanced back at her. I'm sure my face looked like I was in pure terror because I kind of was. I wasn't sure what to do at this moment... should I stop him? Hermione's eyes looked scared as well, but she also looked intrigued as I saw a faint smile dancing on her features...

"I have fallen in love..." Severus spoke as I heard a bit of rustling float around the room.

"Who could have fallen in love with that dreary guy?" I heard Ron whisper as I felt a pinch of guilt hit me. I watched Severus turn his head towards his boss as I saw his face furrow to guilt as well.

"...With a student." Gasps reverberated loudly around the room after he spoke. I instantly stood from my seat out of instinct as I felt the crowds' eyes fall onto me. I felt Harry pulling at my arm as I did this.

"(Y/n), what are you doing? Sit down." I yanked myself away from him as I quickly walked up to Severus, feeling the eyes of all the Professors lowering to me. I pressed my hands into his chest as I looked down at my feet, watching one of my tears fall to the floor.

"Severus, what are you doing... You just ruined everything..." I whispered as I felt him tuck his finger under my chin, raising my eyes to meet his. A smile playing on his face for the first time in the public eye.
