I woke up a little after 9:40AM and was a tad bit disappointed that I won't have the chance to watch BTS' SNL performance.
But then I realised that even though the shows starts at 9:30, a musical performance might not be the first thing they show. So I searched for live streams everywhere on Twitter.... and I got to see them perform liveeeeeeee!!! Yaaassss!!!
Everyone keeps on saying that it's a frickin' huge deal for them to perform on SNL but I personally don't understand why. Maybe because I don't follow SNL. The sketches that I watched just weren't my thing but I had to put up with them just to wait for BTS' performance.
With the production that they seemed to have for the skits, I was kinda confused why they would give BTS only a small space to move around in. Regardless, the performance was good. It was totally live and the boys did pretty well. If I had to be really honest, I prefer their debut showcase for Fake Love more than this but it's cool. I'm just happy that I got to see BTS perform Boy With Luv for the first time.
Their performance for MIC Drop was killer tho! No idea how were able to perform in that small space but since they performed the concert version of the song, the entire performance felt so much better.
So there is a Korea festival going on in my city for the weekend but I didn't even ask permission for it because of my house arrest situation. In the afternoon, my dad just came to me and asked me if I knew about it and if I was going to make plans with my friends, why not go there.
Woah, I felt happy that dad recognises my appreciation for Korea and is even suggesting I attend such events. I did not expect this at all. My mom probably doesn't understand but after this, I swear if BTS ever holds a concert in India, my parents cannot say no to me. I have as it is not gone for so many things now (be it movies or fests) that I don't think I can pass an opportunity to go for a concert, unless if there's a legit strong reason for me not to go.
Coming to his question, I was finally given permission to meet Venus and Kristen. We had already decided to go to that German place Kirsten and I were supposed to go a couple of days ago. I did not tell them about the Korea fest because I don't want to force it down on them. I would've probably gone there on my own, if I had the time.
So I got ready, left my house by 6:15PM and took a train to the desired destination. I was debating whether to take a rickshaw (as per norm) or experience a bus ride. Since I found the bus right outside the station with little to no people inside, I chose the second option. It was a pleasant bus ride apart from the traffic that was caused due to a political procession for the upcoming elections.
I got off the bus and found my way to the restaurant. If I can even call it that. It was literally just a small room to eat. First of all it was located in a very small side lane which was not difficult to miss. The interiors were... well, just 2-3 really small square tables and a long-ish padded stool type seating situation with a couple of chairs. Oh and then a podium for the manager ofcourse.
I sound like this set up bothered me quite a bit but honestly, I was chill with all of this. You gotta experience different things in life. Besides, the burger place I went to a couple of days ago wasn't too big either so you can say that I've become used to small eating joints now.
The only problem that I had was that I had to wait for over 20 mins before either of the two familiar souls arrived. They are always late but since they knew I had a strict deadline, I expected them to be early this time. Anyways, all anger was lost when they did reach, coincidently at the same time.
We had an amazing time! We spoke about our placement situation quite a bit (well, Venus has a job now so she spoke about that), our music preferences, hilarious incidents, etc. Also, the place was tiny but the food was so gooood! We opted for a schnitzel and a doner kebab. We liked it so much that we ordered another doner kebab. Small places seem to have the best food, huh?
After dinner, we decided to do something outrageous, for a once-in-a-lifetime experience sake. Venus really likes wine so we bought one from a nearby alcohol shop and then walked away to find a place to drink. To be honest, I was shit scared. Because this time I knew that drinking in public is a punishable offence. Even when we seemed to have found a fairly good spot, I was constantly on the lookout to see if anyone was approaching us. If we would've gotten caught, I would've found it extremely difficult to face my parents.
But we didn't get caught. Why? Because we didn't drink. Why? Because we weren't able to open the bottle..... Yep. We were in such a hurry to leave the shop and find a place that we forgot to ask the guy to open the bottle for us. Venus ended up taking the bottle home. We left to head home by 9:30PM. I took a rickshaw all the way to my house cause I knew that I wouldn't have time to travel to the station then catch a train and then rickshaw it back home.
What I didn't count for was the fact that there would be a lot of traffic due of Ambedkar Jayanti processions. I reached home a little after 10PM which was my deadline so that's chill. I swear I would have reached home 15 mins earlier on any other normal day.
Such a good day!
